Colonoscopy 2.0 and skirts

I don't want to turn this into a political discussion. However, we all have grown up thinking American medical care was the world standard. You pay three to ten times as much as most countries for prescription drugs. There are some fantastic hospitals, but you pay an even higher multiple for the same surgery. Debating the outcomes of medical treatment in court has become a major industry. I shuddered the first time I went to India and when I read case studies such as Aravind Eye Hospitals. Then I saw that they achieved better cataract outcomes in all respects lining people up in beds and proceeding like an assembly line...while doing half of the surgeries for free. All of this is couched in a "free market" argument, when there is nothing free about that market.

I accompanied a friend into a nursing home to see an elderly relative. Half of the orderlies looked like they were on work release. I think if I ever get to the point that I need one of those facilities I'd rather get in my car parked in my garage and turn the ignition and sit there until I fall into my final sleep.

Sounds like a great Friday night...oh, wait, "final sleep"? Nevermind.

I don't see how healthcare can be a political issue, it's insane that people see it that way, it's our health. My primary doctor that I had had for over 20 years left because of the new restructuring of his practice. Back in the day when you wanted to make an appointment you called his office and a receptionist answered and scheduled you. Now it's answered by a call center who knows where and you can't speak to anyone at the office. His assistants all used to be very fit and clean, last time I went my vital were taken by a borderline obese tatted up ghetto ho. He was also obligated to offer me several vaccines. he told me this himself as if he was sorry. I decided not to ever go back, to cut out the middle man and see specialists. The problem is, like my cardiologist, will only run the tests, give you results and refer to your primary care doctor for treatment. It's like the current structure is set up to suck your insurance for as much as it can. In Colombia major surgery is 5 grand. Why can't we have that here?

An Iranian friend emigrant told me many of her Iranian friends go back to Iran for plastic surgery.. higher quality and a fraction of the cost... I can attest her fake boobs look great... told me almost all the women get boobs
My medicine cabinet is full of Mexican pharmaceuticals. Years ago I had a bad sinus infection and one small antibiotic pill wiped it out within hours. On the flip side the stuff is pretty powerful so you have to use them prudently to avoid serious side affects.

US health insurance companies are the ultimate rent-seekers. They provide no economic efficiencies (evidence says they add massive inefficiencies to the system) and only seek to plant themselves in the middle of an economic activity and skim as large a percentage as they can. Their business model is more akin to that of the mafia than it is to a productive industry,

BTW, my second retina went three weeks ago today. Had the surgery the following Monday. Surgery and one night in the hospital for observation = 33K. I have decent insurance with a low out of pocket max, so I'm OK, but god help people with shitty ACA policies. Oh well, guess this means that next month's cataract surgery on the other eye is all on Blue Cross. FUBCBS!

This is why I don't have a primary care doctor, he's just a middle man getting his cut, I go straight to the specialist when I need something. But some specialists are like "well I just gave you a diagnosis, your primary care care doctor decides how to treat it."

Living in Japan in my 20s cured me of that.
We have 3rd world healthcare, infrastructure, and transportation. Unless your last name is Bezos or Gates.
As much as i love driving my cars, i would give them up instantly for a train commute with single payer.

A friend ended up in Japan after leaving the Foreign Service. Told me once "for all our talk about freedom, the freest I ever felt was when I got my Japanese Health Services card."

My doctor wants me to have one this year. Considering that I hit my out of pocket max for the year with the detachment surgery, I'm looking to have EVERYTHING done this year that I can. Let the parasites lose money on me for a change.

Sadly, I think it depends on where you live. I’m lucky to have access to Northwestern docs. I would have been dead about 8 times if I lived in the sticks. I’m honestly not sure what I pay for health insurance, but I’ve had well over a million dollars in surgeries, and never paid a dime. Had the top neurologist and orthopedist in the state put me back together twice. Shattered pelvis, shattered spine, shattered femur, shattered ribs, shattered shoulder, pulmonary embolism. I’m like the bionic man. After all that, and years of rehab (also free), I can still dunk a basketball. Sorry to hear about other’s experiences in their networks/areas.

After my ins plan (I'm self employed) was cancelled in 2011 and forced onto Obamacare in NJ... wife turned severely ill... best doctors 'here' are in NYC & Phila.. and that's who were called in to save her... to my amazement those weren't covered by NJ Obamacare (each state's Obamacare is different)... first bill of $500K was shocking but I was waiting to see what was my share... couple weeks later when collection agencies went after my house, I was advised... the $500K was MY share of the $1M bill... Life changing in a lot of ways...
