Interesting matchup choice to comment on, since Troy had a 31-3 lead late in the 3rd quarter last year, before they collapsed to lose 40-31. :wink2:

So that is essentially a bye for LSU into the second round. And then the mid-major teams are happy because they were given an equal chance. Sure, a couple of the first round games may be kind of crappy games, but tons of teams already play extremely weak OOC game during the season, it's no different. I don't here people dogging the NCAA for letting teams schedule weak opponents. I only hear them complaining that the BCS doesn't include all the teams that it should, and thus, there's always controversy behind who the real champion should be.

:lol: not really. As I demonstrated in my playoff threads I linked for you - to be principled, we have to invite conference champs - NOT just the mid majors we like. Middle Tennessee State is IN.... Texas is still OUT...

A couple? Try ALL of them. Again, see my playoff hypo threads for the proof. The "but tons already play weak games" excuse is absurd. You're seriously arguing you want more shitty football? If that's why you want a playoff.... well... have at it, cause that's what you're gonna get,.

This is so much bullshit I can't truly comprehend. What you want is more teams getting a bite at the apple. You want MORE big school power shifting... because Texas deserves a chance, maybe.. but the sun belt champ sure as fuck doesn't .... and you know that to be true. You basically want a BCS that doesn't just create 1 game, but a BCS that creates 3 rounds... if the BCS can't get it right with 2 teams, I'm hard pressed to think they can get it right for 8 or 16... and who among us will seriously argue the 16th rated team in the nation should get a shot at the title?

Don't throw the NCAA tourney in my face either. College football is different... we want our champion to have been "the best" (whatever that means) in basketball we settle for whatever team was the "hottest" for an arbitrary set of games in March.

What? The hottest team??? Seriously? I guess UNC just got lucky at the end of the season this past year. Or Kansas last year? When was the last time an elite team didn't win the NCAA tourney? If you have to look it up, it happens seldom enough to still warrant the upside of a playoff.

What about "hottest team" implies that team must also be lucky? Your argument falls flat on its face. I don't know what you mean by "elite" but Florida was a 3 seed in 2006, which means they were somewhere in the 9-12 range, more or less, prior to the tourney. (I didn't have to look it up, either).

Here's something I can say for sure.... in the BCS era, and at no time before it, did the equivalent to Villanova 1985 (8 seed), NC State 1983 (6 seed) or Kansas 1988 (6 seed) ever win the National Championship.

You're really going to have to try harder if you're to convince me that a Play off for CFB is of any value over the current system. I've done a great deal of research on the topic... I reach what I feel is a reasoned conclusion. It's going to take a lot more than anecdotes from you for me to take your position seriously.

With only eight teams making the proposed playoff I'd have no problem with that. To put it in NCAA basketball terms that means you'd have to be either be a 1 or 2 seed just to make it in. If you win three straight games against three of the top eight teams in the country I'd be hard to rationalize they aren't the best team in the country. The college season just seems so anticlimactic now with the season ending and then you wait around for over a month for one game that actually matters that may or may not involve the actual two best teams.

How does a play off resolve anything that your hypo addresses? What other team(s) come along with the one who allegedly "deserves" the 2nd chance? Does that team, or teams, "deserve it" too? Just because Texas lost to TTU, but beat OU? Do tell.

Seriously, I'm not trying to be a dick, I just would really like someone out there to give me some reason that Playoffs are better than the BCS. I concede playoffs are a legit way to crown a champion... but, so is the BCS.. the BCS makes the regular season extremely important.... playoffs? Well.. who cares if Texas loses to TTU... or if OU beats the shit out of TTU, even having lost to Texas... everyone gets a second chance, so who cares what happens during the season?

It troubles me that people want to piss away one of the greatest things college football has to offer - a regular season which means everything... week in... week out... Win and you're in... if you win, and you're not in... play some one tougher... (I'm talking to you Auburn, 2004)

Wrong. Texas gets a shot at the title under the current system IF the Big 12 system for deciding who gets to play in the conference championship wasn't such a shitty idea. THEY CHOSE TO SIGN ON WITH THIS PLAN. Not to be a dick, but shouldn't they have to suffer under what the conference as a whole dcided upon just like everyone else?
