College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

Pitt > Iowa

Clemson should have been #3 and scUM #4.

I think that you're right. They should have been #4, but what I read from the rankings is that by putting us #2 and tsun #3 is that they a) are going to make a spot for the winner of The Game and b) by putting B1G 2/3 they are confident that one of the two will earn their spot during the regular season and c) what happens in the conference championship games will determine who ends up as the final 3 and 4 spots. Obviously, hell freezing over coming before a BAMA loss...

So, simply:
BAMA is in unless... well... who know what it would take for BAMA to fall out of the top four
One of tOSU or tsun will be in provided they win out
Clemson winning out gets them a spot. They will eventually end up a 3 after The Game if they win out. Likely creating a Clemson / B1G first round.
4th spot is up for grabs. Louisville has first right of refusal, then Pac-whatever... then the winner of the B1G if named Wisky... but if State Penn puts on a good show in Indy... they could make a jump a la tOSU in '14. Again, presuming no losses for Wisky or State Penn.

My guess at where we end up:
1) BAMA
2) tOSU
3) Clemson
4) Louisville -- Lowest confidence guess of the four

Everyone understood the competitive imbalance of geographically-split divisions from the beginning, which is why the conference originally went with the widely-panned Leaders and Legends divisions.
Exactly, so why are we now with 4 of the top 6 teams in one division?

Eventually a team from the west division is going to get in that shouldn't and then manage to beat an undefeated east team. Then it'll be directly responsible for pushing the big ten out of the playoffs completely

I totally agree. Eff the divisions. Take the top-2 teams at the end of the season and punch their tickets to Indy. Regardless of what happened during the regular season... and be damned... if that means we have to kick tsun ass twice in a season then so fuck'n be it.

Why limit that approach to the conference; might as well implement it nationwide. I'm just not sure what you would call this approach, if implemented nationally.

anyone worried about winning out but not making the playoff should look at ttun. the skunkbears just lost to an unranked team. the committee didn't move them down a single spot, though. why? they have 3 wins versus top 10 teams, which no one else has. well, that is what osu will have in two weeks (at least according to the rankings as they stand now), with our sole loss instead being to another top 10 team.

Exactly. We win we are in...

To be honest I'm more nervous for MSU then TTUN. Everyone keeps discounting MSU and while they're having a rough year they're a damn fine team. Honestly i hope McDowell isn't playing (albeit gets back to full strength hopefully soon after) because I want this game as easy as possible.

We need to annihilate MSU and I hope that's the message to be honest.

There is also the chance that two B1G teams get in if it ends up being PSU/Wisky in the B1G championship game (winner of OSU/scUM and the winner of the B1G title game). It would take a little chaos but could happen.

Clemson still has Wake Forrest and the rivalry game with South Carolina left...doubt they lose either but not outside the realm of possibility. Louisville plays Houston, not an easy game. Then there is the ACC championship game, which gives potential for another loss for either team. My opinion is that it is very likely a two loss Wisky/PSU team (maybe even scUM) goes over a two loss ACC team. Then Washington still have WSU in the Apple Cup in Pullman...WSU keeps getting better and could very well give Washington their second loss. Then they will likely be in the Pac 12 championship, another potential loss. And even if only one of Louisville/Clemson or Washington get a second loss, that likely puts in another B1G team imo (unless some chaos happens in the B1G). Anyways, fun to think about.

Bama likely gets in no matter what but you never know if they drop one in the Iron Bowl...that could knock them out of #1 and alter whoever the B1G plays.

As of last year, the only member of the Playoff Committee that can comment was the head guy, the USC AD or something. If he (or whoever is in his position this year) said that, I am sold. But if it is ESPiN saying that, I'm not going to take that at face value. So I ask again, who is "they?"
Just my opinion, but win out and it's going to be hard for anybody to squeeze out an 11 - 1 Ohio State team - TV wants them, holiday travel biz wants them.

Presuming no more upsets in the Big 10, Penn State and Wisconsin will slug it out for the third and fourth bowl games on the Big 10 contract because the Rose Bowl is going to want Michigan. Speight would have had almost 7 weeks to recover.

If Michigan collapses without Speight, the Big 10 CCG will be for the Rose Bowl and the Bucks will move onto the playoffs. Fuck you, Joe Pa.

No one is going to pick an 11 - 1 ACC team over an 11 - 1 Ohio State unless the Cards manage to blow out Houston and Kentucky by 30 - 40 points each while the Bucks struggle to win their final two.

Imagine this:

OSU and PSU both win out, with PSU getting the extra win for the B1G championship.

Final Rankings: 1.Bama 2.OSU 3.Clemson 4.PSU

PSU beats Bama, OSU beats Clemson.

All B1G NC game. OSU takes revenge in a blowout victory where PSU never sees a penalty flag thrown against their team and OSU gets everything called on them so no reffing to blame.

One can wish.
