College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

After looking at these rankings, my prediction for the Final 4 looks like this:

1. Bama - They could slip to #2 if Auburn beats them in 2 weeks, but that said there is no way they lose the conference title game. After winning the SEC they would go right back to #1.

2. Ohio State - They could see themselves at a brief #1 spot based on Bama/Auburn. When the Bucks whip the Vulvarines asses, they will cement their bid into the playoffs.

3. Louisville/Clemson - while I don't think Clemson is that great, they are in the mix for their title game with 2 winnable games left. If Louisville can get by Houston, they are a dynamic team with a Heisman contender and a legit resume. Pretty sure they need Clemson to lose though.

4. Washington/ Big 10 Champ - If Washington wins out, they are in - period. They have 1 loss as opposed to Wisky/PSU 2, they are set up for a much better title game showdown, and will have a solid resume. Should Washington lose the Apple Cup game to Washington State, the PAC is out.

I understand that the playoff committee does not value margin of victory, but were I on the committee I would make a distinction between (for want of better terms) winning a game and beating a team.

When you win a game it may have been in OT, you may have had fewer total yards, it may have been on a fluke play - but you won the game.

But when you "beat" a team there is no room for discussion of who was the better team on that day. They are on the mat and are not getting up.

We won against Wisky and Northwestern, but we didn't beat them. We beat Oklahoma and Nebraska and everyone else we played except PSU. And we lost that game. We weren't beaten.

If you look at PSU they won against Temple, Minnesota and OSU - but didn't beat any of them. I would even argue they didn't "beat" Indiana. On the other hand they lost to Pitt and sure as heck got beat by Michigan.

Wisky lost to - but wasn't beaten by - OSU and UM. However, they only "won" against LSU, Georgia St, Iowa, Nebraska and arguably Northwestern.

If you accept this distinction Michigan is the only other team in the BIG who has "beaten" any ranked team (49-10 over PSU).

And they are getting beat in two weeks.

Well don't that beat all.

I really think so too... I think Houston wins and I think Washington Loses to WSU too

If we can win out we are in...

I sure hope so. I'd bet on WSU beating Washington. They scammed their way to the top 5 simply by not losing and beating Utah. If they weren't in the PAC 12, they'd be ranked just above Boise State.

Hell, they may just lose this weekend to Arizona State.

Really looking forward to that Louisville game.

Meh. The committee has shown that they have no problem moving a team up/down without any rhyme or reason. We can win this weekend 59-0 and drop 3 spots.

Exactly. It infuriates me that Texas A&M is still ranked. If they win this weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if they're in the Top 10.

Oh, and that PSU ranking baffles me. I don't know what their SOS ranking is but I can't imagine it's much different than Washington.

That's why, I think it may best for us if PSU wins the B1G (if they go). It'd be much more difficult to justify putting PSU in the Playoff than us (if it comes down to that).

As far as I can tell, the committee just told us everything.. Alabama has a spot. Winner of The Game has a spot, Clemson has a spot.. spot four is a dogfight.. Louisville, Washington, Wisconsin, PSU, Oklahoma, and maybe even Colorado have a shot at it.

God help us if PSU, Washington or Colorado get in. Bama would obliterate PSU in the first 3 minutes of the first quarter.

I know the big 10 scheduling is supposed to be on a rotating basis, and the conference doesn't have control over start times when the schedule is made, but there should never be a circumstance where an osu or michigan has to play two top tier conference teams, back to back, at night, on the road, after those teams have bye weeks. And there should never be a case where osu, ttun, psu, or even msu get to dodge both wisconsin and nebraska in cross divisional games. If you're going to make the west the fluffers of the big 10, then the top dogs of each division have to play each other.

Imagine this:

OSU and PSU both win out, with PSU getting the extra win for the B1G championship.

Final Rankings: 1.Bama 2.OSU 3.Clemson 4.PSU

PSU beats Bama, OSU beats Clemson.

All B1G NC game. OSU takes revenge in a blowout victory where PSU never sees a penalty flag thrown against their team and OSU gets everything called on them so no reffing to blame.

One can wish.

No. Imagine this:

OSU and PSU both win out, PSU wins the B1G outright and has the head to head W over Ohio State.

Final Rankings: 1. Bama 2. Ohio State 3. Clemson 4. Washington

The committee doesn't even take Penn State.

That's my wish, even if the priapism kills me.

Then, assuming you survive the fallout from this scenario, PSU ends up traveling to the orange bowl where louisville ghetto stomps them into submission.
