College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

It kind of sounds like you're saying, "I'm not saying 2012 BCS has any predictive relevance to 2016-17 CFP, but 2012 BCS has predictive relevance to 2016-17 CFP."

Better yet, Howard Dean circa 2003: "I'm not saying George Bush set up 9/11, I'm just asking questions."

J.T. BARRETT ON OHIO STATE'S COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF CHANCES: "IF WE WIN OUT ALL OUR GAMES, BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP OR NOT, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PUT US IN?"

Ohio State needs help to get to Indianapolis and play for the Big Ten championship.

The Buckeyes need to win their remaining two games against Michigan State and Michigan, and they also need Penn State to lose one of its final two. The Nittany Lions close the season against Rutgers and the Spartans.

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is well aware of the help his team needs to make it to the conference championship game. But even if the Buckeyes don’t get the help they need, Barrett believes Ohio State should make the College Football Playoff with two more wins.

“I see it like this,” Barrett said Monday. “If we win out all our games, Big Ten championship or not, you’re not going to put us in? You’re going to leave Ohio State out?”

“I know Big Ten championships and conference championships is a major thing, but then you’re talking about one of those two-loss teams and things like that. It’s something totally different.”

Where does Ohio State go if they don't make the playoff?

The good news is, probably somewhere good.

upload_2016-11-14_16-19-47.png

Michigan’s upset loss at Iowa over the weekend might have been particularly amusing to Ohio State faithful, but it also unquestionably complicated the Buckeyes’ potential path to the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State, as you’ve probably heard by this point, no longer controls their own destiny in the Big Ten East race. Not only do the Buckeyes need to sweep the Michigan schools, but they need Penn State to drop a game to either Rutgers or Michigan State in order to guarantee themselves a shot at the Big Ten championship.

Now, could Ohio State still make the playoff at 11-1, even if they don’t pass Penn State and make a trip to Indianapolis? Sure, that’s possible, thanks to Ohio State’s strength of schedule, but it would require the selection committee to break (limited) precedent and pick a non-conference champion.

But at this point, there’s still a pretty good chance that Ohio State won’t make the playoff. So what are their other possible bowl destinations? It would appear there are three. Let’s take a closer look:

The Rose Bowl
If the Buckeyes can’t make the playoff, a trip to the Granddaddy of Them All isn’t the worst consolation prize in the world. The Buckeyes haven’t played in this game since 2010 (a 26-17 win over Oregon), and have only made the trip west twice in the past 30 years (the other being the memorable 1997 win over Arizona State). Given Ohio State’s massive fan base, it seems a fair bet that Rose Bowl officials would love to get the Buckeyes back to Pasadena.

Urban Meyer unsure how to talk about the College Football Playoff with his team

The Buckeyes are in strange waters regarding their postseason fate.

upload_2016-11-14_16-22-26.png

Regarding the team’s playoff future, Meyer said that he is currently debating how to discuss the playoff scenarios with his team. He hasn’t addressed it yet, like he has in years past, but the team’s focus is on Michigan State.

FiveThirtyEight gives Ohio State 54 percent chance of making CFP

With Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State all likely to be in the CFP’s top 10 when the rankings are announced Tuesday, the Big Ten appears well-positioned to have at least one and possibly two teams reach the playoff.

But how likely are each of those schools to get there? What about to win it all? Here’s how they stack up according to odds calculated by FiveThirtyEight.

Ohio State – 54 percent to reach CFP, 16 percent to win national title
Michigan – 34 percent to reached CFP, 11 percent to win national title
Wisconsin – 28 percent to reach CFP, 3 percent to win national title
Penn State – 9 percent to reach CFP, <1 percent to win national title

In regard to possible non-CFP Bowls, I would flip if they put us in the mother fucking Cotton Bowl against....Western Michigan!!! I guess the only bright side would be schooling another team from that Godforsaken state.

If we're left out for one reason or another, just being selfish, I'd rather they land somewhere down here in FL. Playing Louisville in the Orange Bowl doesn't sound bad. And, gives me a great excuse to go down to Miami.

W. Michigan and their crazy coach tried to row their stupid boat against Ohio State last year. It sunk.

‘I WON'T BE WATCHING IT‘: URBAN MEYER NOT CONCERNED WHERE OHIO STATE LANDS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS

76674_h.jpg,qitok=favJdwSB.pagespeed.ce.DcMwDSaQft.jpg

Urban Meyer was short and sweet Tuesday afternoon.

Ohio State's head coach does not care where his team falls in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, which will be revealed Tuesday night.

"I will not watch it," Meyer said on the Big Ten coaches weekly teleconference. "We've got to get ready for Michigan State."
