College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

Unequivocally one of the best 4 teams in the country....that is the part we as OSU fans should pay attention to if OSU wins out.
It's not clear how much confidence one can have in "unequivocal" evaluation of a subjective comparison. At least (or, at most) this provides a rationale for including a non-conference champion. But I would guess that OSU needs either for PSU to lose another BigTen game, or for there to be two 2-loss P5 conference champs (and PSU wouldn't count as one of them, possibly neither would Wisconsin). OSU's likely #2 ranking this week is largely meaningless.

Agreed... we were one of the top 4 teams last year... didn't play in the Champ game... in which sparty won a shit show... we got left out.... It doesn't say you have to be conf champ but they haven't put in anyone who wasn't a champ... if Wash & Clemson win out and win their champs there in... Bama is in barring multiple loses like to Barn and in the Conf game... If wisky wins the B1G champ .. they are in we are at home. Bottom line.. if you dont play in the Champ game... you're already dropping down a notch or two...

we need Rutgers or MSU to pull a miracle against PSU and Big Game James.... otherwise we're fucked.

I don't think anyone can state anything as a fact at this point.

I'm confident that if OSU wins out they will have one of the top 4 resume's regardless of being a conference champ or not but it's just my opinion. I do think last year will help in that the CFP realizes they took the conference champ piece too far and in the process clearly left out one of the 4 best teams.

We shall see.

Oh I agree we're one of the 4 best teams in the country and peaking at the right time... I just don't trust the committee to learn from last year and not value the Conf champ.

No, of course not. We're talking about combinations of predictions and subjective determinations, neither of which is factual. Things like, "how important is a conference championship, vs. a head-to-head outcome, vs. SOS, vs. someone's subjective opinion of which of two teams is 'better'." Even after we see the outcomes in this case (e.g. who makes it to the playoff), we won't be able to answer those questions as some kind of objective fact.

Even when you say that you're "confident that if OSU wins out they will have one of the top 4 resumes", you're describing that more as a prediction of what your opinion will be, than a prediction of a determinable fact.

This should cheer you up. Brought to you by the good folks at mgoblog:

Good bye playoffs. Hello outback bowl. We'll get our asses kicked Columbus 35-13, per the usual, and watch OSU waltz its way to another national title.

Good night everyone.

Michigan's not going to win in a Columbus. Have another f****** beer

I thought next week was the trap game, let's hope they wake up. As in so many years past, we are looking worse and OSU better as we get closer to the game. I was confident a couple of weeks ago, not at all anymore. In fact, wouldn't be surprised to see Bama OSU for the national title. Ugh. Shitty day

This talk about honouring the conference champions is ridiculous. It may very well be the case but if they want to offer fans a better experience they should (when deemed) go with the better and more deserving team(s). Taking a two or even a three loss team doesn't really excite me.

I think 38-0 is burned into their memory, and they would like to make an adjustment in philosophy that helps people forget about it. This would help restore lost excitement in the playoffs. They need a team that can hang with Bama, and another two boring semi-final games like last year's would be the opposite of what the committee wants.

Maybe Wisc would give Bama a good game, although situation would be similar with Wisc's 3-star players going against bama's 4-5-stars. But I don't think a 2-loss team has made it to the playoffs. One of two established precedents will be set--either a 2-loss team or a conference nonchamp will get in.

I've never heard any talk about "honouring" (what is this, soccer?) the conference champions. I have heard a good bit of talk about "proving it on the field."
