College Football Playoff (2015-16 Season)

They are already ahead of OSU and were even before OSU lost.

Other than a loss this weekend (which would eliminate them and the SEC) what would make the CFP committee change it's mind?

Well, we could say the same about TCU last year, who were ahead of the Buckeyes. Sure, we blew out Wisconsin, and this year we blew out scum. Ranked teams. Tell me Bama's blow out of a ranked team? (Florida game, I believe will be close) So there is no "who is ahead of who" talk, IMO.

One loss Ohio State who didn't reach their conference championship game versus one loss Alabama, SEC champs. I think you're kidding yourself if you believe we'd get in over them, and to be honest I think winning your conference should count for something. OSU lost the worst possible game on the schedule, unfortunately.

Well, second worst possible loss. :harbaugh:

Conference championships are weighted, sure, but not the end all, be all. The SEC is terrible this year. And just because you're the champion of the "mighty" SEC, doesn't guarantee you squat. The Pac12 is a better conference than the SEC, so why not a guaranteed slot for a Pac12 champ? I don't like that argument. The goal of the committee is to place the BEST 4 teams in the country, not the 4 teams already in the top 4. And how teams play this weekend, may change how the committee views certain teams, like us moving in and Bama dropping out. It very well could happen.

TCU didn't play a game that day and weren't a conference champion.

OSU's only issue is the Northern Illinois game. Other than that, most people won't deny they are one of the four best teams in the nation.

To me, those are Clemson, Oklahoma, Bama, and Ohio State. At this point, we really have no clue who of those four is the best team.

Alabama wins and get dropped from the CFP in favor of the Buckeyes? I think your emotions are getting ahead of your thought processes. The committee has done nothing to indicate that would happen - they had the Tide ahead of OSU even when the Bucks were undefeated. I suspect you're making an argument that you would denounce just as fervently if Ohio State and Alabama were currently in opposite situations. If Clemson and Alabama win, they're in. At that point we can only hope the committee decides OSU should replace Oklahoma. Again, they've not done anything to suggest that will happen with neither team playing a game tomorrow.

We need help and hope. Without the former we're not going to the playoff, and frankly it'll be our own fault for losing at home to Sparty's back up QBs.

Let's say that UNC blows out Clemson, and Iowa beats MSU. Alabama, Oklahoma, and Iowa each move up a spot and UNC jumps everyone else and gets the fourth playoff spot. Then in the semis Iowa upsets Oklahoma and UNC stuns Alabama. The would give us a national title game of Iowa versus North Carolina. That would lead to half to country going:

Big Ten trying to stop ACC, Big 12 move to alter conference title games

The Big Ten has filed an amendment that would alter an attempt by the ACC and Big 12 to deregulate conference championship games.

The amendment calls for conference title games to only be held between division winners in a given league. That essentially leaves in place the current NCAA by-law requiring division winners to play.

However, the ACC and Big 12 long ago developed legislation that would allow conferences to basically self-determine their championship games.

For example, under such legislation, leagues could potentially match their two best teams in a championship game. In theory, that would boost conferences' schedule strength and ability to place teams in the College Football Playoff.

That is correct. They have a meeting Friday night.

Bill Hancock was on the radio tonight. He said just because winning a conference championship game was the deciding factor last year, does not mean it will be this year. He said they are just trying to get the four best teams.

Him saying that, to me, makes the loss to MSU not as bad as the other lackluster games.
Agree 100%. If we actually played well for 8 or 9 games, and lost of MSU, I think we have a great shot. It's that we only played well 3 or 4 times this year and lost to MSU that I think we don't get in. UNC has played similar competition (after today) and have dominated in 8 or 9 games, with 1 win over a top 10 team, but has dominated most of their competition. After losing in a game that seems like an eternity ago. Everyone is allowed to have 3 games where they struggle against weak competition, it's just the nature of a season, but we had 8 of those by my count and that's too much to overcome.
