College Football Playoff (2015-16 Season)

Iowa lost to MSU by 3 on a neutral field; we lost to MSU by 3 at home.

Iowa faced MSU with All Big Ten QB Connor Cook; we faced MSU with a couple of bums at QB.

Iowa won their division; we didn't.

Iowa finished with a 12-1 record; we finished with an 11-1 record.

Iowa beat two ranked teams (#12 Northwestern; #23 Wisconsin); we beat one ranked team (#17 Michigan).

Iowa deserved to be ranked ahead of Ohio State.

Those are all reasons Iowa should be ranked ahead of us under the "resume test." If that's what the committee is using, then fine. But I had understood them to be trying to determine which was the "best teams" (in order). In that case, it sure is difficult to understand Iowa being ranked ahead of Ohio State. I think we can all agree Ohio State would be favored by 10-14 points on a neutral field.

I think Rose Bowl still should have and would have taken Iowa. They are the runner up in the Big Ten by default another factor is that the fans traveled very well to Indianapolis which intrigued the Rose Bowl. I think both Ohio State and Iowa can beat Stanford and it will be proven again that the Big Ten is actually a good conference.

Wasn't Cook still hurt last night? I know he played, but I thought he was limited. I assume he will be ready for bama.

Cook is exactly the type of qb that gives bam problems. People say mobile qbs are the problem, but since 2010, Bama has had trouble when a qb has shown pinpoint accuracy, which cook has when healthy. To me, his performance is the key to the game.
Cook can be accurate, but at the same time inconsistent. As in he can make all the throws, and can fit it in tiny windows, but doesn't have a great completion percentage. He's never had a single season above 60% passing, which at the collegiate level for someone who is supposed to be a top player is alarmingly low. 57% this year. But only 5 INTs. He doesn't turn it over much.

Seems to me like it is pretty obvious that the big ten was the best conference this year.

On paper...

...but much like the SEC in years past, we won't really know until they get put up against some top brass in other conferences.

Iowa was a legitimately great team this year, but they avoided most of the B1G strength during the regular season and Sparty was two zero second wins away from being a top 15 "could've been".

I do think the B1G is ultimately a better conference this year than others, but not because it's great this year, just because others are very very topheavy.

I understand what you are saying, but the bowls lack meaning that a regular season game does. I generally don't place much value on a bowl win that isn't in the playoff. I watch very few bowl games.

Heavy disagreement on all accounts.

I get that bowl games don't always reflect each individual team's maximum potential, but they do give you a decent idea of how the top of each conference stacks up against one another. You get to see styles of football play one another that only play within their own segment of the CFB universe much of the year.

I don't understand how any football fan in general doesn't enjoy watching bowl games.

"Only in it for the championships" is a terrible way to fan, imo.

It probably is a terrible way to fan. I see bowl games as glorified scrimmages. There is no intrinsic meaning.

I have noticed that those that feel the same as me are generally either young, or from the south. Those that feel the same as you, are usually older or from the north.

My wife's family is from the north, and they watch every single bowl game on tv and cheer like crazy. Most of the southerners I know, watch the bowl games of the teams they are interested in very casually. For example, I bet the Auburn's bowl game won't be sold out, but when they play a cupcake school, they still put 95k in the seats. I wonder why this is?

Why is his completion percentage on the low side if he throws so well? Does he not read well or make poor decisions? Is it purely the inconsistency?

 Well at least you did something right.

As for the bowl games, I do not give a rat's ass (for the most part) about them unless my team (Buckeyes) is playing. I am the same with all sports (Reds, Bengals, Crew, Blue Jackets), though. I don't watch the NBA because it is boring to me and I have no stake in the games. The only exception is I will watch certain B1G teams if they are playing a team I want to see win against Michigan or if I want to see the B1G team beat a team like Notre Dame, USC/PAC 12, SEC SEC SEC. You won't see me tune into the Sugar Bowl that is for sure with a matchup of Ole Piss vs Okie State.

I may watch Houston vs FSU to see what Herman does and to hopefully see FSU go down to a team from the AAC.

My wife and I are in our 20s, grew up in North Carolina and Georgia respectively and will watch as much college football as we can consume because we love watching it.

It's all anecdotal of course, but I don't think it's about a/s/l as much as it is about what gets your rocks off.

Some people like watching football. Those people will be watching a lot of bowls.

Some people just like claiming championships. Those people usually wear gingham, houndstooth and pastel polos.

#1 & #2 are CFP, duh.

#3 is the Fiesta Bowl like there was any other choice.

#4 Rose Bowl

#5 & #6 Alamo & Russell Athletic Bowls because nobody likes defense.

The Peach Bowl came in at #7 which beat out the Sugar Bowl at #8.

Other Notables:

Temple vs Toledo at #10, BG vs GA Southern at #11, Northwestern vs Tennessee at #14, TTUN vs Flo-Rida at #21, PedSU vs UGA at #26, and of course the B1G has a couple of 5-7 teams going bowling.

I agree about the scrimmages as a fan I realized I was more excited about the bowl games than the team. See rose bowl losses in the 70's ..players on vacation after beating scUM.
