College Football Playoff (2015-16 Season)

I really don't think it's close between OSU and Stanford - just because they are 6 and 7 doesn't mean there isn't a large gap between the two.

Even if Stanford wins, 2 losses will be too much. Plus, the loss would make USC 8-5 and likely fall out of the Top 25. Their only ranked win in that case would be Notre Dame and while OSU only one has to their credit we don't have the 2 L's hanging over us.

If Clemson loses I still think they should get in, but I think they'd get left out and it'd be the same situation as last year....they wouldn't be able to pick between Clemson and UNC and both would get left out. I have 0 belief that Florida has any remote chance of beating Bama, so I really think it is as simple as if UNC wins, OSU is in - if not, I'll be excited to get either Notre Dame or Houston in the Fiesta.

Remember the Buckeyes clocked Wisky last year which was the key. Stanford would need to clock USC since they already have (2) losses. And Ohio State needs Sparty to clock Iowa to make sure they're at least in the Rose Bowl.

What a difference two weeks make when after the Sparty game it was like the Bataan death march and now hope springs eternal. As mentioned in the other thread and others have mentioned, follow the $$$.

I initially thought that as well, but the comparison between osu, stanford, and UNC changed my mind. Their resume is arguably better than OSU's. Very close. It may depend on the outcome of the game.

I like your post but I don't think that if Clemson loses that they still deserve to be in. If they lose they have accomplished the same thing as Ohio state - a division championship and a loss late. I think at that point you look at resumes and the quality of the loss.

Notre Dame or Houston in the Fiesta

Meh.
I mean, curbstomping Notre Dame is never a bad thing.... but.... meh.
For as much success as Ohio State has had since Tressel came aboard, trips to Pasadena have been few and far between. If we have to settle... it's Rose Bowl or bust in my imo.
Anyone know how selection works? Does the Rose get to hand pick replacement for Big champ? If they do, have to figure Ohio State is a lot more attractive than either of the other two teams - one of which will be coming off a disappointing loss - which don't travel or pull near as well tv ratings.

I agree re: Florida versus Bama but I don't think our path to the playoff is as simple as you make it. We were 6th at this point last year, but we won't be thumping anyone 59-0 this Saturday.

If we don't get in I have no interest in playing Houston anywhere. ND in the Fiesta or a trip to Pasadena, please.

Actually, "we" were 5th and TCU was 3rd.

Well that is true; I'm taking MSU beating Iowa for granted. MSU can flaunt being B1G Champion, having a ref flub loss to Nebraska from being undefeated which we can attempt to make us look better. If Iowa wins then that certainly throws a curveball into our path, but come on.....Ferentz is bound to choke once they announce his back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back B1G COY Award.

ROSE BOWL GAME PRESENTED BY NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL (Pasadena, Calif.)
1. When not hosting a semifinal, the Big Ten Champion will play in the Rose Bowl Game, unless among the top four teams.
2. If the Big Ten Champion qualifies for the playoff, the Rose Bowl Game will choose a replacement Big Ten team.
3. The Rose Bowl Game has sole discretion on a replacement team, and will generally select the highest‐rated available team, but will take into consideration final College Football Playoff rankings, head‐to‐head competition, division champions and most recent Rose Bowl Game appearances.

The Rose Bowl stands tall on saying that it will take the highest ranked team in the Big ten conference. So, whoever wins Saturday will go to the playoffs. If Ohio State doesn't make it into the playoffs we will be chosen by the Rose since we will outrank the loser of the Big Ten championship.

Selfishly I want the Buckeyes in the Citrus or Outback if they won't go to the Rose. Pretty slim chances with that though.
