Colin Cowherd (Official Ass Hat)

well it would be easier for me to listen to cowherd if he didnt have that annoying lisp and the face of a weasel...and he hates everything that has to do with ohio

Agree totally. He's the classic "Flyover Country" pundit.
All that matters is NYC/Boston and California.

That's what they pay him to do. He has repeatedly stated that if OSU were not so good, nobody would care about them.

I disagree. I got bored with Patrick a long time ago (he was still doing Sportscenter). I don't catch a lot of talk radio but I'll listen to Cowherd over Patrick.
Completely agree with you there. Found his radio show when still with ESPN to be mind-numbingly boring. I like Cowherd's show as well, it at least keeps me interested.

wow he sure is a brilliant announcer
No one said he's brilliant, but this whole 'he hates tOSU/ohio' bit is tired, old, and incorrect. Does he (a media person) say controversal things to get folks riled up? Sure. But that doesn't translate into he hates tOSU.

I'm not saying this is you who does this, but it seems like many of the threads that relate to media honks claim that the person in question 'hates us'. I remember reading that about Pete Fiutak as well....he hates us...and yet the guy claims year in/year out, that we're near the top of the heap in CFB. Seems like the "us-against-them" mentality gone amuck.

I believe that Pete Fiutak was about the only one of them who predicted we would beat Miami for the 2002/2003 championship.

It amuses me to no end that people seem to think that there are sportswriters across america, huddled in their cubicles cursing the name of Ohio State.

Home today so I've got Cowherd on and here's what I've seen thus far:

The very first words of the show were "Ohio State FINALLY beats the SEC in a bowl game". We've been told not to "gloat", and he's repeated the first line at least 2 times. He still hasn't mentioned this is our 6th BCS bowl victory. Of course, that would lead to him having to acknowledge his beloved USC Trojans got stripped of a BCS bowl win for cheating.

He went on to explain that even if we had beaten Wisconsin, Oregon would've - and should've - got the title game bid. I guess the fact we were #1 in the polls at the time and are the last team to beat Oregon are irrelevant to that point or simply forgotten. Our season turned out fine IMO, but his argument is weak.

Don't get me wrong - none of this makes me angry. It makes me laugh. The Buckeyes are held to a different standard by some media, and when OSU accomplishes something it is spun in a negative light.

He did, however, defend Ohio State and the NCAA on the 5 players and told the people emailing him and whining about them playing - most likely "SEC fans" and 18 year olds for whom "Ohio State sucks" is the depth of their knowledge. We delay punishment all the time in this country. We have appeal processes and suspended sentences in this country. He also said it would've screwed 30,000 people from Ohio who had already booked trips and they didn't deserve that. He's right on this issue.

Now he's on to Rich Rod and mocking the "Michigan Man" mentality....

I'm going off on a tangent here, and I apologize. But yeah - Ohio State's successes can't remain pure successes for long. 2002 national championship was "The refs blew that game" and then later about Maurice Clarret issues. 2003 was capped with the Fiesta Bowl win against Kansas State, who were all distracted because El Roberson (was that his name?) was accused of some off-the-field trouble. 2004 win over Michigan was quickly eclipsed by the Troy Smith off-the-field issues. 2005.. They beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, but no negatives seemed to come from that. I guess the media figured everyone beats Notre Dame in bowl games. 2006 - we don't need to talk about that. Or 2007. 2008 - Ohio State went down to the wire against a team that many thought deserved to be in the National Championship game, and it became another "Ohio State can't win the big game". 2009 - finally, after 3 consecutive BCS game losses, Ohio State beats heavily-favored (in the minds of the fans) Oregon, and within a few days, it became "Oregon must not have been as good as we thought they were". I think we'll just have to accept it for now.

As for Cowherd, he has admitted many times that he talks about issues, teams, players, etc. that matter to his fan base. He's interested in his ratings. And things that happen in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, etc. are bigger for his ratings than things that happen in Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, etc. I don't like that he talks about those things more, but at least he admits that that's the reason why he's doing it.

Two hours later and he's back to belly-aching about the guy not scooping up the punt. Usually Cowherd is better than his ESPN counterparts but he's fitting right in today. :slappy:

So is everybody else that's on radio. Bad ratings=unemployed. Would anybody here rather he talk more Kansas State basketball? I sure as hell wouldn't listen.

I'm going to guess that Colin hasn't mentioned that he was mistaken when he said Michigan would own the Big Ten and Tressel under RR. :slappy:
I think it was about a month and half ago he did actually admit to being way off on RR and Michigan.

I actually think he did mention that he thought RR was a home run for Michigan. Didn't word it quite like you did, but I have to give him credit for saying that (or something like that).

His show was surprisingly boring today. He usually does a good job of keeping me out of a daze at work. Not today.

My point was that he, unlike any of the other people I've tried to listen to (which are few), actually admits that he chooses his topics by what the ratings would/should be.

I'm not crazy about him, either. I haven't listened to him in months. But I give him credit for not ducking that fact.
