Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

Billy's butthurt y'all didn't offer him so he's making it personal.

But from a pure hiring standpoint, it was a good pickup for them.

oh Billy made it crystal clear LSU was the job he wanted.
And that weird ass school he left is also pissed that LSU, a school they allegedly despise, didn’t even offer him.

but it is definitely a good hire for them.

if we get who i want to replace him though, we’ll come out better than them.

I feel like he was LSU's fall back plan if all the big names struck out. And Florida pre-empted that by going straight for him.

i don’t have any “inside” sources, but i’m confident he wasn’t very high on the list and would have been considered a disaster if we got that far.

It was known that he would be at the top of FU’s list if they pulled the plug on Cousin Eddie.

Man, I remember back in 2007/2008 Tedford was one of the "hot names" on the coaching carousel. He promptly flamed out at Cal a couple of years later, was out of coaching for a bit, then resurfaced at Fresno St, where he had some success before resigning for health reasons. Maybe he picks back up where he left off. What's old is new again.

I don't think he flamed out at Cal - he was fantastic. Passed up a lot of big time jobs....very, very tough place to coach. Getting kids into Cal is hard enough, but you're going up against schools that have 10x the facilities, fans that show up, boosters that care, etc.

He went to 7 straight bowls, since 1950 they've had 3 10 win seasons and he's been behind 2 of them. The guy is legit one of the best offensive minds of our era....but hiring one of their own alum, who has coached there before, this hire was a grand slam move for them.

Having lived in Central Cal before I can assure you, getting anyone who is functionally literate to come to Fresno is an achievement alone, so someone like Jeff is special.

And he's already gotten Haener to return it looks like, sorry Washington.

I agree. I remember a few years back when Sonny Dykes coached there. Started off strong but only lasted 3 years. He's not an elite coach by any means, but I think he's very solid. Did well enough at SMU for a few years afterward that TCU hired him to replace Patterson. He was good at LA Tech before he went to Cal too. Suggests to me that it's tough it is to win at Cal.
