Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

So, is Tom Herman going to hire an OC and/or DC any time soon? I know Harrell and Ash are both popular names but you figure those would have gotten done by now, considering NSD is six days away.

I don't think it gets talked about enough, but Texas is a really really tough job.

folks are asking themselves if there’s another year like this year ...will they be back on the market... Harrell is interesting with the Helton cluster... but Ash might wanna seewhere the dust settles

Willie Taggart’s new job will offset the money Florida State owes him as part of his buyout, but not by much

Every little bit helps, right?

Florida State’s decision to fire Willie Taggart less than two years into his contract came with a steep financial cost, with the deposed head coach being owed in the very ritzy neighborhood of $18 million. That buyout, though, would be offset by any money Taggart would make in his next job(s).

Wednesday evening, Florida Atlantic announced that Taggart had been hired as its next head football coach. As of this posting, FAU has yet to release the financial particulars of Taggart’s deal with the university.

At least a portion of that info, though, has now been made public.

For perspective, the man Taggart is replacing, new Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, was paid $1.432 million in guaranteed compensation for 2019.

So, if Berkowitz’s numbers are accurate — and they normally very much are — FSU’s future obligation to Taggart would drop to just under $14 million. So they have that going for them. Which is nice.

Just sayin': (Think about it) Willie Taggert really hit the "college coach lottery"; after one good season in his coaching career (i.e. 10-2 at South Florida in 2016), a bad season at Oregon (i.e. 7-5 in 2017) and 2 bad seasons at Free shoes (i.e. 5-7 in 2018 and 4-5 in 2019) he's probably now worth over $20M dollars. Granted, he is now stuck at FAU, but he should sleep well at night knowing he's financially secure (and do what he damn well pleases) for the rest of his life.

Is that an upgrade? I've never heard of him. I see he won 10 games this year, but he has two years in the Sun Belt. Moorhead was a pretty highly regarded HC candidate two years ago and it's not like he face planted.

apparently you don't quite understand how things in Mississippi Work.

Moorhead was as Yankee as they come.
Born in Pittsburgh, went to school in New York, every job pre-MSU was all in the northeast.
them boys in backwoods Mississippi (and Starkville is as backwoods as it comes) don't care much for Yankees with zero ties to ole Dixie.

Napier is from Georgia, played at a school in So Carolina, worked at both Clemson and Bama.
