Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

They went from 1949 to 1993 without being ranked in the Final AP poll before coming in 11th in Rich Brooks' final year. Brooks typically had them at or around .500 with the occasional 8 win season mixed in. Looking back at their history, they never really attained "doormat" status, but were typically just very mediocre. Bellotti definitely elevated them considerably, going 116-55 (.678) over 14 seasons. If they can find a guy to get them those kind of results, they should be very happy. I think it will be pretty much impossible to find somebody to get them back to the level Chip had them.

Yea, they were definitely never Northwestern level doormat. Probably closer to how Minnesota is now, hover around .500 and maybe get to 8/9 in a real good year.

On the topic of Oregon, where the fuck did Mark Helfrich go? I know he wasn't working in football this year, but I also haven't seen or heard him on any CFB TV or radio programs since getting canned.

I haven't noticed him either, but apparently he is on TV.

Mark Helfrich is on the rebound.

The former Oregon coach has been receiving positive reviews for his work as an analyst of Fox Sports 1 college football broadcasts this season while also spending more quality time with his wife and kids.

Heard an interview with Fisher where he stated that they called the team together and he told them prior to it getting out. He said Francois was in class and did not attend the meeting......

Eh, going to class or going to a meeting called by a guy named "Jimbo?" Something tells me Francois made the right choice in terms of furthering his life.

And Washington was in a historical down period. I don't think that Oregon and Washington can both be nationally relevant at the same time, and as long as Peterson stays at UW (and I don't see him leaving at all), I think Oregon's days as a national power are done.

I think it's more dependent on what USC and UCLA are doing. The state of those 2 programs (esp USC) is largely what determines how the ASU, UW, OUs are going to fair in attracting CA recruits.
With USC picking up steam again and UCLA snagging Chip ... Peterson holding serve at UW ... Shaw keeping Stanford decent... Leach mixing it up with Wazzou... the rest of the PAC could be in for some tough times.

I think that's a pretty decent hire, but again, not the kind that is going to get them anywhere near the highs of the Kelly years. If they can accept that their ceiling is probably being a consistent 9-4 type team, they should be fine. I don't think the fans or Uncle Phil will be happy with that, though.
