Oregon went from being in the National Title game to being a stepping-stone program in 3 years. I guess Nike money isn't all its cracked up to be....
They caught lightning in a bottle with Chip Kelly, first as OC then as HC. Some of his efforts bled over into Helfrich's tenure, but as they moved further away from Chip, it fell completely apart. And given some of the stuff that came out about Chip (show cause, etc.), it would appear some of that success was not attained honestly.

Oregon could be a fairly attractive job because of the close association with Uncle Phil, but historically, it's not a very good program. Unless they can find the next Chip Kelly, their ceiling is probably the pre-Chip, Bellotti-era.

And Washington was in a historical down period. I don't think that Oregon and Washington can both be nationally relevant at the same time, and as long as Peterson stays at UW (and I don't see him leaving at all), I think Oregon's days as a national power are done.
