Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

opinion on O Canada and your QB recroots reverse?

on the surface, i like it.
Canada seems to be a solid choice for OC who has run some pro-style and some power spread.

if he adapts his offense to the weapons in hand, he could be a really good one for us.

Brennan (if developed properly) could be the QB we've been missing since Jimbo left.

How old? I live really close to the university, you should send it to me and I will drin....um, take it to them personally for you. :sneaky:

Just don't agree with a few of their analyses (grades); however, only time will tell....

Luke Fickell, Cincinnati

Grade: C+

Reported contract: 6 years, $13.8 million

Fickell is a departure from UC’s tradition of hiring promising offensive coaches. Some industry sources liked the move, citing Fickell’s rich history in state as a recruiting jackpot. Others, however, wonder what sort of ceiling Fickell has as a head man. One source called it a “safe” hire - “maybe too safe,” he said.

Another suggested that perhaps Fickell cannot fully escape his 6-7 interim season at Ohio State until he has something else on his head-coaching resume.

“He has something to prove, even after several years winning on (Meyer’s) staff,” one industry source said.
I will forever be grateful for Fickell and for the job he did in that one awful year. He kept talent on board so that Urban didn't inherit an empty cupboard. Through no fault of his own he had to go with Brax before Brax was ready. In the end, he got stuck with a bowl game that never should have happened because TV wanted a game between Myer's new team and his old team to market. If he had had use of the Tat five he would have done much better than 6 and 7. Much better.

Glad you had something to be happy about. :)

yeah at least it's something.

i have very little faith in O.
but according to him, he's not even going to actually coach anything. He's going to let the assistants do all of the coaching.

like that was part of his actual sales pitch.
"because i suck as a coach, i'm going to hire all the best assistants and let them do all the work"

If I recall correctly this was a good chunk of John Cooper's philosophy......

The 90's drove me to the point that I didn't want to watch "The Game" because I would just lose my shit. BUT. the man recruited southwest Ohio and the rest of the US. He drove Notre Dame and Michigan out of Cincinnati and he totally upgraded the talent level at The OSU and put the program on a national map. I can almost forgive him for his record against TTUN because he more than evened the score with Notre Dame.
