Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

Good move by Leslie. I don't know howKevin Steele keeps getting jobs. He's fucking terrible.

thanks to the ineptitude of our AD, we kinda had to settle last year.

the split with Chavis was UGLY. allegations (that LSU somewhat admitted to later) of altering his contract after signing it. AD putting dumb clauses in assistants contracts, not offering up longer than 2 years, etc. In hindsight it points to him setting up the firing of Miles.

so when we was looking, none of the top names were really interested in the gig. So we had to take Steele a guy who needed a good year at a big school to try to revive his name.

he had a great year by his standards (horrendous by ours) and got a bigger payday with better benefits at Auburn.

and thanks to our AD neutering himself with his failed coup at the end of the year, he has to save face by going big.

From everything I've read, this is a great hire and one I'm excited about. I just hope he sticks around before landing a HC and NFL coordinator job.

Larry Coker no longer head coach at UTSA

Larry Coker, the first and only head coach in UTSA program history, will no longer be the head coach of the Road Runners according to CFT contributor Zach Barnett over on Football Scoop. The timing of the coaching change is peculiar, but the result is not exactly shocking. Coker had long been thought to be on his last legs with the program after initially helping to establish the program years before playing a single game.

Coker won a national championship at Miami in 2001, his first season as a head coach after taking over for Butch Davis. Miami played for the national championship the following season, only to lose to Ohio State.:banger:Coker won two more bowl games at Miami before being let go at the end of the 2006 season.

Larry Coker was also an assistant coach at Ohio State from 1993-1995 under John Cooper.

Ohio State OC Tim Beck should get a look at UTSA. No, seriously

If you're a smaller, Group of 5 program in Texas, you're going to want somebody who can recruit well, especially in state. Beck covers Texas for Ohio State, and has spent extensive time there, ever since his tenures at Kansas (2005-2007) and Nebraska (2008-2014). Beck was the lead recruiter for several key Nebraska prospects, including Texas natives QB Tommy Armstrong and four-star defensive end Josh Williams.

Any struggles by the offense at Ohio State aside, it's not like Beck is a bad coach. After all, the guy was the passing game coordinator at Kansas during the Todd Reesing era, which even included a BCS bowl victory for the Jayhawks. Yes, Kansas.

At Nebraska, where Beck worked with the running backs before becoming a OC/QB coach, he built some devastatingly potent running attacks, riding talent like Rex Burkhead, Ameer Abdullah and Kenny Bell to offenses that averaged 33 points a game over his tenure. He was also -- perhaps most importantly -- a highly successful high school coach in Texas.
