Kirby Smart, rumored to be the favorite for South Carolina, is a UGA grad. Interesting times in the S-E-C.

With Mark Richt out expect #Bama DC Kirby Smart to get strong consideration to land the #UGA vacancy, source tells @FOXSports

12:40 PM - 29 Nov 2015

Kirby Smart might now have at least 2 schools bidding for his services.

The second tier Power 5 vacancies fascinate me. It would seem that most of those places would have been better off hanging on to their coaches in the hopes of the market being more in their favor next year. I realize there are other pressures - from boosters, administration - some ADs are making last ditch efforts to keep their own jobs. Still though, it's hard to imagine a place like Virginia being able to get a worthwhile up-and-comer once the big boys have made their selections. Some of those places haven't really had a choice due to health or misconduct. It will be interesting to see what places like Missouri and Rutgers do. I think Illinois and Minnesota have done well by promoting their internal candidates. Those programs aren't going to elevate themselves that way, but they've bought themselves some time. Iowa State did really well to secure Matt Campbell quickly. I was surprised and think he could have got a better job if he wanted it.
