The leading candidate for the Minnesota job will be former Nebraska football coach Frank Solich. He is 70-30 as a head coach, going 4-7 and 9-4 his two seasons at Ohio University. Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi, having been AD at Miami of Ohio, is sold on the caliber of football played in the Mid-American Conference.

  • Houston's Art Briles has been contacted by representatives from the University of Minnesota to discuss the Golden Gophers' football coaching vacancy. But Briles, who was named Conference USA Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, decided Tuesday to decline an interview. Other coaches linked to the Minnesota vacancy include USC offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, former Iowa State coach Dan McCarney, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, TCU's Gary Patterson, Montana's Bobby Hauck and former Miami coach Larry Coker.

Tice really likes coaching Minnesota teams. He didnt have that much success with the Vikings. If that rumor is true, I dont think Tice would be a great fit for the Gophers, since he is an offensive specialist when the Gophers defense is what they need help in.

I would like formally announce that I have no interest in the head coaching position at Minnesota.

Thank you

I would like to announce that I do. My XBox skills are exceptional and I could use the $100K salary. Weathermen just don't get paid enough. Especially in the Air Force.
