I think its a good decision. A bit cheaper financially, and he's a Mid-West guy with a solid scheme. I think he can succeed in Minnesota with a bit higher-quality athlete and his game plans. Succeed, of course, as in 7-5.

I really expected Minny to go after a name like Chris Peterson, Greg Schiano, or Randy Edsall. Not sure if they did or not but I don't know why any of those wouldn't consider. It would be a step up from where they are.
Really?

Even if it was, all three will probably eventually land much better jobs than minny...

I know...I'm sure that's what they would be thinking if a school like Minnesota comes calling. We see coaches like that being more patient these days. Instead of jumping asap to a better conference for more money, they wait for a few more years for an Ohio State, Texas, or Alabama type school to knock on their door.

I thought they could do a hell of a lot better. Hell, as best I can tell, they didn't even shoot for any A (or B) llsters. They have a brand new on-campus stadium, mountains of Big Ten cash and a storied (if long stagnant) history.

Just goes to show that the AD there has completely gone full retard and has no business attempting to dictate to the rest of the Big Ten precisely what we can and can not do regarding the BTHC.

kill is not a "name" coach, but his teams have shown progress at each stop in his head coaching career.
OTOH, the media guide headlines practically write themselves ...

"Coach wants Gophers to have Killer Instinct ..."

"Gophers go for the Kill ..."

I could go on, but in deference to the fine sensibilities of the BP audience I'm pulling the kill switch on morbid punditry.

The 'A' listers don't really get me that excited. They either tend to be bad fits culturally for schools that over pay for them or are interested in stepping stoning their way to a destination school (which Minnesota is definitely not).

A solid coach who is likely to stick around for the long haul is a much better long term solution as far as I'm concerned.

Kinda like that retard Geiger going with a non A lister from the AA *gasp* ranks of all places.

Kill has had 'about 20' seizures since incident

There are no guarantees that a scary scene won't play itself out again on the Minnesota sidelines. The Gophers held a pep rally Tuesday for their seizure-stricken football coach. And they held a fire-and-brimstone church service, complete with a fevered preacher. ... And the head cheerleader, the Lord-have-mercy reverend and the salty-tongued rabble-rouser were all the same person: Jerry Kill, the coach who will not be stopped. Kill revealed Tuesday that he has experienced "about 20 [seizures] in the last six [darn] days," including a few even since Saturday's victory over Miami (Ohio), and that the medication doctors have prescribed in hopes of controlling them hasn't "worked too dang good this time."

Kill signs 7-year deal with 1-6 Gophers (AP)

Minnesota coach Jerry Kill has finally signed his contract, a seven-year deal that runs through the 2017 season. The contract was finalized Tuesday. Kill was working since his hire last December under the terms of a five-year agreement for $1.1 million annually plus bonuses. The two sides were still working on legal language over the last few months, and two years were added to the deal.
