I was reading the dispatch the other day and did ayone find it ironic that Belichecks two assistants were metioned as leading candidates for head coach. Also a leading candidate for the GM position was another Belicheck guy. Anyone else find this ironic?

I'm from Columbus so don't follow the Browns closely but do follow them, so excuse for not knowing this: two of Belicheck's assistant coaches in Cleveland were Nick Saban and Kirk Ferentz.

Firing Belicheck has to go down as one of the all time bonehead coaching moves.

The braintrust in Cleveland in the early 90's was amazing. '94 was when we went 10-6 and had the #1 scoring defense in the NFL...we thought everything was going to take off. Early 95 we started strong (3-1) but following a victory against 3-0 Kansas City, it was announced that the team would move to Baltimore. We went on to lose every game that season besides beating the Bengals twice.

It was after the move that Belichick was fired. So I claim that boneheaded move for the Ravens...not the Browns. The Browns screw up enough for themselves without having to take other teams screw ups as well.

What u say?
That deserves a ding as soon as the rep system is brought back.
The team moved, he wasnt fired.
I still hate the man for firing Bernie.
Yes thats basically what he did, he fired the legend.

There's a bunch of good RBs at the top of the draft this year, but the Browns aren't really in need of one.

It's tough to pass up a Mike Williams, but again, it's not their main need.

Perhaps an Erasmus James or Dan Cody? They've not had luck drafting D-Linemen, but I still see it as a major need on that team.

There was a nice article by Terry Pluto in the Akron paper the other day talking about how Belichick (sp?) matured from his experience in Cleveland. The article talked about how Butch Davis now has that opportunity. Belichick figured out what he was doing wrong, surrounded himself with good people and laid out a plan of winning.

heres to hoping we finish 3-13 and pass the dolphins and 49ers for worst record in the nfl, if this is the case who do you think we would take..

It looks like it will not be a real deep draft this year. There are lots of areas that need attention. Both lines, LB, and DB's. I would love to see them drop down, but I do not know if the depth if there to justify it.

Bill Belicheck is one of the brightest people in the game of football because he learns, not because he's always right. Belicheck acknowledged he totally botched the way he handled the cleveland qb situation and how much it helped him properly manage the bledsoe-brady thing.

Derrick Johnson

Even though the O-Line is horrible, the defense is in much need of a playmaker. I think Derrick Johnson from UT is a can't miss on D. Definitely a top 5 'er in the draft, and as of now, the Brownies are picking 3rd. Couple him with Andra Davis and you'll have a great 1-2 punch at LB for years to come. Living in Texas, I've followed his college career for the last four years and have personally seen some amazing things from this dude. He's big, fast and smart. Key on the smart part of that last comment. There's hasn't been much on that on D in Cleveland in a long time.

Alex Barron (OT) is an option out of FSU. I would personally like to see us trade down to fill as many needs as possible. We need guards worse than anything, and we can get some good ones late in the first while picking up an extra 2nd, 3rd or 4th pick to fill some other needs.

I go to Florida Stae and Alex Barron is good, but not top 5 pick good. If we need offensive lineman, our best move is to trade back in the draft. If we stay in the top five Derrick Johnson is a great selection or even perhaps an Antrel Rolle (cb from Miami). It's difficult to speculate when our team has that many holes.

Best corner I've seen all year is Carlos Rogers out of Auburn. Antrel Rolle has been either spectacular or MIA all year. Rogers has been scary consitent. I want to get a feel for what the rest of the teams are doing, but if we could get Rolle in the top 5 or Regers between 5-10, I'll take Rogers EVERY time. He's going to be good!

I agree on Barron, he is a bit of a reach because much of his potential is untapped. I don't risk a top 3 on him...maybe between 5-10 as well. Depending on area the Browns want to hit. I just hate to see another draft lost without a solid OG or OT pick.

I want a QB. I think SF would go Rodgers or Leinart, Miami would take Cadillac Williams, and the Browns should take whoever the QB SF doesn't take. Right now, it's looking like the Browns will get the 3 or 4 pick with Washington being the other team involved. I don't see Washington taking a QB.

Garcia has a year left till his body stops working, Holcomb has never been consistent, and McCown is a backup. This year, the Browns have the oppurtunity to get themselves a proven QB from a school that played the best and they were succesful as hell. A la, Bernie from Miami. They can sit him for a year and learn under Garcia and Holcomb and come in with an even better understanding of the game. I think Charlie Frye out of Akron could be another possibility. That kid has skills.

I like the idea of doing something on defense but they gotta get something going at QB with all that talent. At least they have a running game to help the young QB out, a la, Bernie's first 2 years.

Cleveland actually has speed at WR and I think Bryant could be great if he chills out a bit. Winslow obviously..Green and Suggs. And the OL really isn't that bad right now. The 2nd and 3rd rounds could provide someone there for depth. Getting a QB would be the best way to go if the right guy is there.

This, of course, is only contingent upon the Browns failing to sign Brees. It would be wise for them to look into it a bit. Then I think Derrick Johnson or Hlati Ngata (DT - if he decides to come out) would be the 2 to decide from.
