Clifford suspended (Washington OK to play) In Championship

Come on, that's not nice. We are guests here. Shelly Poe is actually a very respected spokesperson in the world of college athletics, that's why Ohio State hired her away from West Virginia. I feel bad for the Eugene Clifford kid, it's never good to have someone suspended. That would crush me if I were in his shoes. It's also good to hear that Washington will be playing in the NC. He's a great player.

WHAT!!!! you mean we stole somebody from WVU too? they must love the Big ten

First time checking the boards today...surprised to say the least.

DWash has been injured...Chek has been running with the 1s anyway so there would not be much of a dropoff anyway...the staff is singing some high praises on him. Donald will be fine by 1/7..just a tweaked hammy.

Not sure what happened with Donald...but Im glad to hear it.

wow... this morning I turn on ESPN and I see the news and I'm not going to lie I was a combonation of Pissed, sad, and worried. Now, this is like a new breath of fresh air for me! I mean the thing I was worried about was chikwa matching up with the opposite reciever of Early. Whoever said Donald Washington is not that athletic and just a decent player is a fuckin moron. He's one of the fastest on the team, and it's already been stated how he performs on the track and also on the field as well. It would've been a tall order to upset LSU in their backyards but without Washington I was truely worried.

Hopefully Washington can heal up (which it sounds like he will) and he'll be right in there against LSU. ESPN has really been breaking false news too early lately, first with Les Miles and now they don't get this right? Geez they need to get a life these are college kids.

It is a shame about Eugene, but hopefully he takes this setback (albeit a self inflicted one) and gets his life and priorities in order.

Grad nice info about Chimdi and Donald. Chimdi reminds me of Ashton Y, an untapped source of good size (height) with outstanding athletic ability just waiting for his chance to bust out on the national scene.

hahaha good point with "the geez these are just kids" but hell I'm 21 so dammit I can still idolize kids without looking too bad right?

Yeah I wasn't selling chikwa short because I know he's been great this year and might have played steadier than Washington for the most part. However the thing that scared me was the size of Laffell or whoever his name is. Chikwa's size to me was my concern not his abilities because I know he can play. I was just worried bout Chikwa at 170 or so matching up with a 6'4 200+ recieve. Washington at 6'1" 190-195 can really be a big help with the bigger reciever for LSU

That's mighty gracious of you - but that resemblance you cannot overlook.

Well the shame and sadness of sitting home while your teamates are away, sure did Troy a world of good. From a very unqualified observer, their (Troy and Gene) situations look similar, history of a few stupid, selfish acts maybe caused by their sense of invincibility because of their prodigous abilities. Gene will miss an even bigger opportunity then Troy did and Troy obviously learned from it to go on to be a Buckeye legend and great citizen (at least to this point in his young life) hopefully Gene will do the same and dedicate himself to being a great person, teammate and Buckeye.
:oh:

:io:

I read this thread from page one and after doing so it occured to me that Gene Clifford could possibly be JT's special player "project" next year. Let's speculate here. I mean the way he took Troy under his wing, he could do the same thing with Gene. I could see JT calling Troy to ask him to speak to Gene. This may be a stretch but it feels like the thing to do. I can see JT reaching out to him but letting him sort out a few things on his own. In some circles they call this mentoring. In others, the master/apprentice relationships are often the best way we learn. Sitting in his room watching the game on TV on Jan 7th will be punishment that he'll remember for a long time. Hopefully, next year Gene will be back with the same physical abilities and an adjusted attitude. It would be nice to see him emerge as a new man and the Buckeye that we can be proud of just like Troy Smith.

In defense of ESPN (god help me if I ever type THAT again) there were a lot of people breaking this story early. Even the insiders here (elitists that they are :p) were hearing the same thing.

Not to bust on ya, but they do not owe him shit. If he had not gotten in to trouble in the first place it never would have been an issue to debate. Don't put yourself in the position and you will never have to worry about getting an apology.

At this point, with so little information available on what even happened, I don't know that it is fair to assume that DWII screwed up but avoided a suspension. With a guy that has never been in trouble before, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that his name was erroneously brought into the story in the first place.
