Clifford suspended (Washington OK to play) In Championship

I agree with everyone who is posting that it is not so much about losing the talent that hurts, but it concerns me that the whole team is not focused on the task at hand. That is a giant leap to say the whole team is not focused when just two individuals have been suspended but it has to question the teams leadership I would think. Plus having any kind of distraction is not good IMO. The circus around Les Miles was not good for LSU and this is not good for the Bucks.

Besides just missing the NCG these kids are making it is clear they are not recieving the message JT is trying to get across about becoming leaders in the community. This is the second time Eugene has been in "trouble" at OSU. Sometimes kids just do not get the message and it appears he may be one of those kids. I hope it is not the case but his track record is proving otherwise.

Wait a minute ! there was a prize?? what prize?
It's Finally Friday by George Jones. What do I win?

Seriously, the thought of Chekwa playing/starting doesn't concern me. Don't get me wrong, as I'd still rather have Washington out there too, but I have a good amount of faith in Chekwa and his abilities. I also feel pretty good about Amos, I just would have preferred he had more play time this year. But, as it's been pointed out, they'll have several weeks to practice in their new roles, so they should do well.

In a strange sort of way (and through my scarlet colored glasses), I kind of see this as a positive. Yes, we lost one starter out of 22, but as Grad and others have said talent replaces talent even if there is a small dropoff I guessing (hoping) it's not significant.

Now for the positive: First, do you not think that Chewka, Amos, O'Neal, etc., will not prepare and focus twice as heard to ensure that they will not be the weak link in the defense as so many here and elsewhere are assuming they will be? They have three weeks to prepare as if they are the man...will they?

Secondly, if I'm the coaches I'm using this as the ultimate motivational tool. Can you not imagine the defensive coaches as I type laying into the rest of the defense? "Do you not remember last year? I thought we were focused! I thought this team was different! Where's the hunger? Where's the desire? Do you want a repeat of last year's embarassment, because I sure as hell don't!!" How will they respond, I don't know...I would think that the defensive leaders will make sure that there are no further distractions from here on out. At least looking throught my scarlet colored glasses...

I still don't quite understand all of the hand wringing and outright panic I see in some of these posts....

It sucks these guys won't be at the game, but this is Ohio State, talent replaces talent. Given 17 days or so to practice and for the coaches to give the players that will replace them 1st and 2nd team reps (as required), things will be just fine. This won't be the issue if Ohio State loses the game.
Chicken dinner.
