19 out of 21 picks were pitchers. The nice thing is they seem to do well developing pitchers and hopefully we have a surplus in a few years we can trade for position players.Pitching depth in the system seems to be severely lacking at the moment so I don't blame them with going all out on pitchers in this draft.
The Indians actually don't have difficult decisions to make this trade deadline. They're clearly not a player or two away from winning the AL, so they're obviously not going to be buyers. They have no particularly high paid players that are performing well and free agents at the end of the year or after next year, so they don't have anybody that really makes sense as a trade chip. Nobody will trade even a halfway decent prospect for a half-season rental of Eddie Rosario or Cesar Hernandez. There is too much team control on cheap contracts to give up any of the best players on the team without a huge return, which no one will agree to. I would be surprised if Cleveland makes any big trades this month.
They could easily play Chang at SS. He has been under utilized his entire career.I heard a different Cleveland name as a possible trade option on the radio the other day. There was a guest reporter on the Fan who said Amed Rosario could be dealt before the end of the month. I don't see it as likely, but there is a scintilla of logic if they do trade him. He has two arbitration years after this season, so his price is bound to go up if they're going to keep him. But he doesn't make very much, and won't break the bank even after arbitration, so they can keep him affordably two more full seasons past this one, and they actually need to keep him on their team right now from a competitive standpoint. I think they are a lot more likely to trade Amed either this winter or most especially next July because that will give their young infield prospects more time to develop and prove they belong on the major league team.
I think enough of Chang has been seen to know he can’t hack it in the bigs. They could easily play Chang at SS. He has been under utilized his entire career.
