Speaking of Santana, can anyone remember the last time (when he was catching) that he actually caught the ball and made the tag on a play at the plate? This bum drops more decent throws home than five or six average catchers. Did it again against the Os on Sunday.

At this point I am really starting to question how much Francona has on gameday. I mean Jesus, you repeatedly hit-and-run with your worst hitter not named Santana (Sellers), even after he repeatedly swings, misses, and the guy gets thrown out? Repeatedly? They had first and third, no one out in the 7th last night...they got one run and ended up with no one on base and bone-dogged their way right out of the only rally they had. Every decision he makes seems to come up snake eyes...I'm not sure he is an asset at this point.

I have never been that big of a fan of Francona. Sure he is better than a lot of other guys the Indians could have gotten as a manager but I questioned some of his decisions last year and this year it is not only his gameday management but he plays favorites quite a bit IMO. I mean Swisher and Santana both should have been dropped down in the lineup way before Francona eventually did so. They were losing games one right after another and neither one of those guys were hitting the ball so please try something different but Francona did not. I did not have very high hopes for this team when the season began but I do not expect them to be this bad and some of that poor performance has to lie on the feet of the manager.

Francona is a player's manager, always has been. I'm not sure many other managers could have wrung 92 wins out of that roster last year. I think he's a good motivator, average at best strategist. When guys are on, he's very good. But when your best pitcher suddenly turns back into a pumpkin, your "big" FA signings from the previous year come up bust, and your cleanup hitter is 50 points below the Mendoza line, there's not much you can do. This just isn't a very good team, and they overachieved massively last year.
