Cleveland Indians Thread of Malaise (2014 Season)

Good thing we let go of Aaron Harang...

3-1 with a .70 ERA in 4 starts. Was pulled from game last night after 7 no-hit innings.

Carrasco can't even get to the 7th inning.....Surely Harang will probably fall off but it does look stupid that they took Carrasco over him as the 5th starter

I think Carrasco might be the pitching version of the Andy Marte Partay.

Only 17 games in or not, this team is 22nd in the league in ERA, 21st in quality starts, 27th in whip, 27th in batting average against, 18th in runs, 21st in batting average, and 24th in slugging percentage. Another little fun fact, Yan Gomes leads the AL in errors committed.

It's apparent this team has trouble holding leads or ties as well immediately give it right back. Aside from Brantley we have no clutch hitting, and I'd be willing to bet we are up there for most runners left on base, especially in scoring position.

Yes last year we started 5-10 vs 7-10, but last year we weren't coming of a playoff berth. No reason to toss in the white towel or raise the white flag, but so far there is definitely some reason for concern. To make matters worse Carrasco is pitching today so lets just assume we fall to 7-11 and losers of 9 of our last 11.

I don't see how in the hell our organization can't see that Carrasco belongs in the bullpen? He is good for a few innings that's it, then hitters learn him and drill him. Not only should he not be a starter but it stings knowing we gave him the spot over Harrang who is killing it right now.

BUT at least we won today, not overly impressive but a W is a W.

Whoa Nellie! Now just hold on a New York minute there partner!! Andy Marte has a perfect 0.00 ERA as a pitcher....and he earned it against those pinstriped yokels from NYC.....you can look it up. http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2010/07/andy_martes_1-2-3_ninth_offers.html

You can take this to the bank: That Carriassco feller will never be the pitcher that Andy Marte was!

Carriassco gets at least another start, unless they want to give Tomlin a go. It's too early to bring Bauer up full time: they won't want to allow him to earn a year of ML $ervice in 2014.
Feh, if they delay Bauer another month because of the 25 days of service time he got last year, they deserve Carrasco results. The kid is making 1.5 mil this year anyway because he signed a major league contract with AZ when drafted. Heck, give a spot start to TJ House or something.

I am starting to be intrigued by Jesus Aguilar at the plate, wonder if he's creeping into future DH plans. Alas, his glove is about as useful as Pronk's, from what I hear.

Brantley continues being ultra clutch hits a 2 run homer 2-0 tribe.

What happens? In true Indian fashion this season we gave up 2 runs in about 2 minutes... oh and also in true fashion with ANOTHER error.

Oh well, Blue Jackets are on who cares about this game?

That's not how it works...his time last year only counted for whether he accrued a Year of Service for the 2013 season. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/principles/contract-details/service-time-super-two/

It's not this year's salary that's the concern...it's the salary in the last year he'll be eligible for arbitration vs what he would get as a free agent a year sooner that's the issue. With a decent starting pitcher--which many/most expect Bauer to become--that money difference will most likely determine whether that season is in Cleveland or elsewhere.
