Cleveland Indians Thread of Malaise (2014 Season)

Well there inlies why it has been such a disaster for players to walk when they're 28-30. The drafting needs to improve immeasurably for any sustained success. There have to be 4-5 Lindors in the pipeline, not 1 at a time, and we need some home-grown pitchers, not just Kazmaier/Davies type reclamation projects and AAAA starters. If you have 4-5 position players and 1-2 starters locked up at any one time, and you have 2-3 position prospects (real ones, not LaPorta/Marte/Chisenhall types) and 1-2 starters making their way up, then you have something. We haven't had that though.
The drafts continue to be the problem. Unless you're the Cubs current system, 5 Lindors is a bit idealistic, but the a Tribe is on the other end of the spectrum right now. I've said it in the past, but the Bourn/Swisher era might top out at play-in games. Better than the Acta era but even more bittersweet. A team that can beat up on the real losers but struggles against Boston and worse, the fuckin Tigers. One that can't get over the hump because there are few prospects to call on.

That said, this organization has killed it (in a good way) in Latin America. Young middle infielders will always have some trade value and if Jesus Aguilar actually has learned the strike zone, he could play a role on this team for the future. Shapinetti has shown a keen eye for acquiring prospects at the deadline, let's see if they can do the same while dealing from their own minor league strengths (namely, middle infield).

This team needs starting arms desperately. I love ZMc/Salazar and think Kluber will be a good #5 for the foreseeable future, but Carrasco is a cunthair away from getting the 4A tag slapped on him. Tomlin I think is toast, not his fault with the injury but he had borderline stuff before that. Very interested to see if Bauer has decided to take instruction; he's important to the future of this club.

Looks like Vinnie was simply sent down has he has options, good to see CC back even if it's just until Bourn is ready.

Pretty much every freaking year, the bats on this team sleep through the first couple of weeks. Cripes.

We're averaging 4.5 runs per game through 8 games which isn't terrible. Detroit sure as heck isn't lighting the world on fire offensively right now thankfully and as you said we seem to start out slow offensively - perhaps the weather has something to do with it?
