this team doesn't have the offensive firepower to be a legit threat night in and night out. this team is 18th in mlb in terms of average. but they're 11th in runs scored and 11th in ops and 4th in on base percentage. they're 18th in slugging % and homers as well.

what does all that mean? depends on what baseball stat nuts want to portray, but, it sure isn't a sustainable stat line. it's heavily dependent on drawing walks and getting on base via error. being selective as a team is great, but you can't rely on walks as a consistent source of offense. if this team was actually hitting well, or at least hitting with more power, then this would be a little more sustainable.

so, long story short, this team is going to have to ride the backs of their pitching staff if they want to contend. the real question is how long will they ride the krotchrot train before pulling the plug.

Krotchrot is "heating up" (if you call 2 or 3 hits in a 4 game stretch with a couple of RBI and several popups heating up) so I imagine that train is on the rails for a while.

Eh, the problem isn't if those stats are sustainable. The averages are the averages. (The 11th in runs and OPS makes sense, with the average and OBP on each side)

The problem is, even at this output it's tenuous at best.

So, yeah, the obvious answer is when do you bring back LaPorta and accept the K's, I mean, it's not as though Kotchman is contributing to, well, anything positive. I don't honestly think you lose much OPB with LaBusta and you might get a dinger or double or 3.

Yeah, he's back to being Adam Dunn. But, he has like 10 hr and 25 rbi already...so he's been pretty productive. Now, if 2011 Adam Dunn was knocking the ball around on our guys, that would be worth bitching about.
