Cleveland Indians (official 2012 season)

So who will they call up? Another RH reliever? Is Rafie ready to come back? (I don't think so).

Rafie Perez was reportedly just starting to long toss over the weekend and, if all is well, to begin pen sessions this week. I'm hoping they will send him on AAA rehab before bringing him back. He's really not been "right" all season.

My best guess is that they'll bring Herrmann back. They need a long reliever. Asencio has done a decent job the first inning or so but has not faired well in longer spots. Herrmann did a decent job in that role last year.

Jeremy Accardo was called up to replace Wheeler....he posted a 5.73 ERA in 37.2 innings last year for Baltimore (I guess that's still better than Wheeler has been this year)

A 5 hit shutout by Derek Lowe...
Six hit, complete game shutout...with ZERO strikeouts. How often do you see that?

Side note: The twinks owe Mauer six years at around $20M per...for essentially a spray-hitting, nearly 30-year old, catcher at this point. Ouch.

dumb deal for them.

really shows how good that extension to santana was for cleveland. when he's too old to be an effective catcher, if his offense isn't improved to the point that he'd be worth a big time DH deal or 1b deal, cleveland isn't bent over a barrel (see contract - Travis Hafner).

 forgot that last hit.

Yeah Mauer was a complete no-win for them. If they let him walk to the Yankees or wherever, they have a new ballpark with no marketable pieces. But they signed him and locked him up, which was great for PR at the time but now looks like they have gotten themselves Scott Servais V2.0.

once about every 39 years apparently....

TonyIPI RT @DKnobler From Indians: Derek Lowe 1st CLE pitcher with CG SHO without a strikeout since Dick Tidrow, 7/14/73, also at Minnesota.

MLB - Derek Lowe odd shutout
Derek Lowe is just the 4th pitcher in the expansion era to throw a shutout in which he finished with zero strikeouts and at least four walks...

Derek Lowe got 22 groundball outs Tuesday, the most by a pitcher since Joel Pineiro got 22 on June 23, 2009, against the Mets.

Johnny Damon is bad. Really bad. I hope it's just rust that he needs to knock off but I'm not so sure. Lowe is looking like the steel of the offseason and Choo is looking decent in the lead off spot. Bring on Seattle.

I kind of like Choo in the lead-off spot as well. He gets hit with so much frequency it's great for OBP.

In actuality though, I think the way he dives in pisses pitchers off. But pitchers aren't going to put him on at the top of the line-up. Should help Choo see some quality pitches and protect him a bit.

9 hits and 7 runs on King Felix so far in the bottom of the 4th (a couple were unearned but runs are runs against him)

Ubaldo is determined to keep the Mariners in the game though

the Indians jumped to a 4-1 lead before Ubaldo tossed a meatball 2 run HR to Dustin Ackley to make it 4-3....hopefully he can hold on, it would be a damn shame to waste 7 runs in a game that King Felix started

Felix pulled after 3 2/3 after giving up another run to make it 8-3 (3.2 IP 10 H 8 R 6 ER 3K/3BB)

and its 8-3 after 4....the only player in the lineup without a hit is Kotchman
