Cleveland Indians (official 2012 season)

I guess that's a subjective thing, but he's 27. If the light is going to go on at the MLB level, it usually does by this point. Now, as with everything, there are outliers...and I suppose it's possible LaBusta is one...but I think that's pretty slim chance. We thought we were getting a .280-35-100 guy, now I'll be happy with .250-15-60.

Well, yeah, I think he still has less than 1000 AB's. And, really, .250-15-60 is about what we have.

But, let's not confuse the issue... this is about Kotchman sucking dicks. We could still have Ben Broussard if that's what we wanted at first.

And, yeah, the negativity here is, that he's been a major disappointment given the expecations and Sabathia thing. Objectively, Kotchman has been sucking balls with the bat in his hands. And of course, yet again, LaPorta has been raking at AAA, and more than likely, he'll be overmatched by big League pitching. I get it. I don't think it's the "answer" - but, an answer isn't going to present itself for a while either.

But, at this point you have Cabrera, Lowe and half the bullpen playing lights out, along with Hannahan playing (until recently) way over his head, and Smooth, Brantley, and Kipnis being very solid so far.

While Choo may actually be getting his head out of his ass and Pronk will do his usual hot/cold routine if he can stay on the field... this does not a division winner make. We're getting absolutely nothing out of LF and 1B. The LF fix, so far not so good, so, Kotchman is next. You can't ask these guys to play their guts out like they have and not try to get help. (Slam Ubaldo all you want but at least he's over .500 and eats innings... MAsterson is getting shown up by the rest of the stafff and needs to get his head out of his ass)

At least these guys go out and generally curb stomp lesser competition, they need more offense, we have a ton of games with Detroit and Chicago the next few weeks, so, no trade deadline moves gonna save us before that.

Not to mention, the reality is, we'll be 40 games in by the weekend... so, you kind of have to do what you can to figure out what, if anything you'd do at the deadline. Right now, this isn't a team I'd sacrifice a lot of pieces for to try to win the division. So, I think you need to give it your best look ASAP. That pretty much means you have to see if LaPorta and Sizemore have anything to offer as soon as you can.

Eh, whatever... yeah, Kotchman sucks.

Kotchman saves at least a run a game by picking throws that LaBusta would waive his glove at. In yesterday's game he picked tosses by Cabrera and Lopez. Remember, this team has a pitching staff that generates a LOT of groundballs so there are a lot of throws to 1B.

If we want to make a position change for a better bat, let's start the conversation with Jhonny Damon! He can barely "drive" the ball past 2B and if you have seen his feeble throws, wrong turns and horrible judgment on routine fly balls you know he is a huge liability in LF.

Well interleague play got off to an interesting start...CWS/Cubs, Konerko homers in the first and then Shamalamadingding beans him in the face in the third. Of course Charlie Weis will make sure he doesn't get suspended...

The Tribe bounce back from the game 1 extra innings loss to win game 2 2-0 shutting out the Marlins

and this....

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/e...ians-closer-chris-perez-blasts-cleveland-fans

Indians closer Chris Perez was cheered as he walked off the field at Progressive Field on Saturday -- but that seemed to just get him worked up.

After Saturday's 2-0 Indians victory over the Marlins, Perez vented about Cleveland's fans.

"I'm tired of getting booed at home," Perez told reporters (via MLB.com). "So I figured I'd throw some strikes today. You can quote that."

Perez needed just 10 pitches to strike out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning, picking up his 13th save of the season and lowering his ERA to 3.31.

Perez blew a save on opening day, but that's his only blown save of the season. In a tumultuous season for closers in Major League Baseball, he's been as good as anyone. He did pick up a loss on May 8, but other than those two outings, he's been very good. That, apparently, hasn't kept the Cleveland fans from booing their closer and their first-place team.

Thursday, Perez came into a tie game with the Mariners in the 10th inning and gave up a single and walk, which was greeted by boos. Perez was still upset about it on Saturday.

"It doesn't bother me. It [ticks] me off," he said (MLB.com). "I don't think they have a reason to boo me."

He also noted the team has the worst average attendance in the big leagues, despite leading the American League Central.

"Guys don't want to come over here, and people wonder why," Perez said (MLB.com). "Why doesn't Carlos Beltran want to come over here? Well, because of that. That's part of it. It doesn't go unnoticed -- trust us. I'm not calling out the fans. It's just how it is. … Nobody wants to play in front of 5,000 fans. We know the weather [stinks], but people see that. Other players know that.

"You had a choice of playing in St. Louis where you get 40,000 like Beltran chose to do, or you can come to Cleveland. It's going to take more money to get him to come to Cleveland. That's just how it is. That's another thing that you have to go against. It's not only the payrolls of the East teams, but that kind of stuff."

It sounds harsh -- but I'm not sure he said anything that wasn't true.

love ya chris

Chris Perez shut the door on the Marlins Saturday, striking out the side en route to his 13th save.

What did he do to celebrate another great performance? Mr. Perez ripped Cleveland's fans, of course. He told reporters, amongst other things, that he wasn't happy that home fans booed him two outings ago against the Mariners and that free agents -- he cited Carlos Beltran -- don't sign with the Indians because of a lack of fan support. Even ardent supporters of Perez in-town may now echo the sentiments of his detractors and call for a trade of the husky stopper to open the ninth-inning job for Vinnie Pestano. Unfortunately for Perez, his mouth has detracted from what has been a fabulous season thus far. Since imploding on Opening Day, he is 13-for-13 in save conversions to go with a 1.72 ERA, 15/4 K/BB rate and .153 BAA.

Cleveland sports fans have earned the right to do whatever they fucking want IMO.

They are among the most loyal fans in all of sports and what are they rewarded with? Heartbreak on the field and apathy in the owners box. Many of these same fans are Browns fans and Cavs fans so their angst is completely understandable to me (a Cleveland sports fan since birth).

They have been burned too many times so they figure "why show up when all they are going to do is let me down in the end?"

Some of this also comes from the football fans mentality. I have been as guilty as the next guy of saying "oh this team is going to suck" after game two of a 162 game season. I'm honestly surprised at how negative this thread continues to be with where the Tribe is sitting after 40 games. I'm surprised, but I get it.

The truth is that this team is playing well, they are in first place and they deserve to be supported. I completely understand, however, why fans are hesitant to spend their hard earned money on a Cleveland sports team.

Perez certainly didn't do anything to endear himself to the fans with that outburst. He put a ton of pressure on himself with those statements. He better have 1-2-3 innings from here on out now that he shot his fat mouth off.

Oh I absolutely agree that they are the most loyal fans in sports. No argument there. But if the owner doesn't spend, they aren't going to show up. Plain and simple. The Jacobs spent money like crazy and it paid off with 455 straight sell-outs. I'm not even sure that we can reach 45 sell-outs in a row with Dolan at the helm. He's horrible.

Perez has the right to be frustrated and I don't blame him for making those comments, but he's continued on this morning basically saying that it sucks to play in Cleveland. I can forgive a statement made in anger especially when his frustration was understandable, but after a night's sleep, he should have realized it was ill-timed.

We've had good attendance the last 2 days and will have good attendance today. You don't shit on your customers just when they are starting to come around.

i say we trade perez while his stock is high...pestano can take over as closer...problem solved
I say just keep letting him do his thing and closing out wins. :)

Zack Meisel ‏@ZackMeisel
Chris Perez: "I'm here to win. I want to win here. I care. ... We want to win. But right now, we're winning for ourselves, basically."

I love it. "No one else cares, but F it, we'll just keep winning" attitude. If the clubhouse believes then that's all that matters and it can take you far. Acta has a scrappy bunch.

I fully understand where Perez is coming from and what he's saying and I agree with him completely. Maybe the only thing I don't like about it is that there are SOME fans (few maybe) that have always supported the team and shown up at the park even when they aren't playing well. I've been down to the park 4 times now this year so he probably shouldn't alienate everyone. However, he's speaking the truth. The fans in Cleveland when it comes to the Indians are flat out embarrassing. We'll sell out every home game for the Browns even though most of the organization doesn't seem to give two shits about putting a quality team on the field. But, the Indians have remained competitive through some time money spending times and the players actually come out and play hard nightly. Fans also need to stop fucking bringing up "455" because that was a long time ago and it's nothing to brag about when we're putting out the lowest attendance in baseball now days - with a team in 1st place no less. To me, 455 just says bandwagon fans.

To me, 455 just says we had a good owner who actually put money into the team.

it says to me that you fail to grasp the economic scenario of the time, the lack of a football team, and the gross differential in baseball payrolls and how they've escalated in the last 10 years.
