Cleveland Indians (official 2012 season)

Is Vladimir Guerrero available?? Pick him up, can't he play 1st? Send Laporta back to minors. Pronk at DH :roll2:

Sign Vlad to a 1 year deal. I know it's not a long term thing, but at this point he's better than what we have now

Pass on Vlad even if it was a possibility. Guy can't stay healthy anymore and he's an offensive blackhole in the middle of the lineup. Not to mention he can't play defense for [Mark May]. You'd be wasting cash on two DHs (Hafner/Vlad).

Sorry meant to put RF not 1st. Is Fukudome gone?
I believe he is a free agent. He came with a pretty hefty contract last year and I don't think that the Indians are going to re-sign for the type of money that he will be seeking. Plus, we have Choo to play RF and will not really need him.

So what RH hitters are out there for possibilities?
I think any free agent RH is probably already signed. Maybe they could work out a trade with someone and trade Rage for a Rh hitter. We have plenty of guys in the bullpen and someone could take over for the closer spot. I know I would think that deal.

well tribe is looking at yet another lefty...funny thing is management has not signed off on it...suprise suprise...pena will bring power and will strike out a ton...my estimation if he ends up on the tribe is 3 DL stints and down numbers for the year

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians like Carlos Pena and went to ownership to see if they could make a deal work.

However, ownership has yet to make a decision on the matter. Pena, who turns 34 in May, batted .225/.357/.462 with 28 home runs, 80 RBI and an .819 OPS over 606 plate appearances with the Cubs last season. Progressive Field is generally considered pitcher-friendly, but at least caters to left-handed power. The veteran first baseman has also reportedly drawn interest from the Rays.

YYYYYYEEEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! They are finally acquiescing to all of my posts in the Indians threads and bringing in the modern day ROB FREAKING DEER!!!!!!

I think Pena, if he plays a full season (um, right :paranoid:) could either be the "good" Deer or the "bad" Deer:

1987 Deer ("good"): 134 G, 28 HR, 80 RBI, 186 Ks, .238 AVG

1991 Deer ("bad"): 134 G, 25 HR, 64 RBI, 175 Ks, .179 AVG

Yes folks, Detroit was so bad that year (actually, they weren't bad, which makes this amazing) he got 539 PAs and hit all of .179

I can see Pena doing either, but I am leaning to a "Bad Deer" at this stage

Let us have a moment of silence to mourn yet another Cleveland baseball tradition laid to rest: the Winter Press Tour. Instead, according to the Plain Dealer the Tribe is now doing a Cleveland mall tour..how pathetic is that?

Mall tour: The Indians tour of area malls -- replacement for the winter press tour -- begins Jan. 26. Acta, Indians players, coaches and broadcasters will visit SouthPark Mall in Strongsville on Jan. 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Jan. 27; Summitt Mall, Akron from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 28 and Beachwood Place, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 29

Has the Tribe's budget really dropped so low that they can't charter a bus for a few days?

Oh, and they signed another scrap heap pitcher to a minor league deal with an invite to big league camp [yawn]

And the odds of the Tribe getting a "good" Deer would be, what, about the same as me winning the Kentucky Derby? :(

Nice to see that Antonetti subscribes to the Shapiro scrap heap free agency strategy
