Not that spring training is the be all tell all

but Ubaldo has failed to impress to say the least

a 6.27 ERA in 18 2/3 innings....opponents have batted .325 off of him, his WHIP is 1.93 with an abysmal 13K/10BB ratio

the rotation looks to be a cluster [censored] after Masterson....Tomlin is a good innings eater but nothing spectacular, then a conglomerate of bums.
We may never know how Drew Pomeranz would have turned out as Denver is where pitchers go to die, but that trade has all the makings of a spectacular disaster. The Indians sit like bumps on a log for years when it comes to major roster improvements, then they go out and get a guy whose career is heading into a death-spiral. Classic Cleveland.

BTW, LaPorta has confirmed himself an AAAA player as he'll start the year in C-bus. Might as well just DFA him now.

More surprisingly, and disheartening...Chisenhall will start there as well. :ohwell:

My gut feeling on 2012? 70-92...

Tribe makes another waiver wire deal for a minor league bullpen pitcher, but this time it's for a buddy for Roberto/Fausto:

Asencio did not play in 2010 with the Braves because he was on the restricted list for playing under a false name. The Dominican native signed with the Pirates in 2004 as Luis Valdez. His true identity was discovered in 2010.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Indians have acquired right-hander Jairo Asencio from Atlanta for cash. He will compete for one of the two open spots in the bullpen that GM Chris Antonetti and manager Manny Acta are trying to fill before the regular season begins April 5 at Progressive Field.
The 28-year-old Asencio is out of options.
Asencio went 3-1 with a 1.81 ERA and 26 saves in 27 opportunities at Class AAA Gwinnett last year. He struck out 70 and walked 22 in 47 games. Asencio made six appearances with the Braves, posting a 6.97 ERA.
The 6-2, 205-pound Asencio last year limited Class AAA hitters to a .196 (39-for-199) batting average. His six appearances with the Braves came on three different trips to the big leagues. This spring he made 10 relief appearances with a 3.27 ERA (four earned runs in 11 innings) for Atlanta. He's allowed 13 hits and three walks, while striking out 12.
Asencio pitched winter ball in the Dominican Republic for Toros Del Este where he saved 10 games in 23 appearances. He struck out 33 and allowed 16 hits and three earned runs in 25 1/3 innings. He was named MVP of the Caribbean World Series where he posted three saves in three games for the Dominican Republic.
He has led the International League in saves in 2009 (27) and last year. Asencio's big league career consists of nine games with the Braves, three in 2009 and six in 2011.

Chisenhall isn't really a surprise...he has been hitting like shit and his defense isn't as good as New Jack's at the corner. Honestly it's better if he figures out how to hit better in the minors this year anyway. Too many guys get rushed up too fast and don't really get it figured out against ML pitching. He might be more of a top flight glove with the ability to play every day too.

LaBusta...which shitty trade was that? Lee? Sabathia? I can't keep them all straight. Fuck even that "world's greatest trade" we made...Sizemore is brokedick mountain, Phillips is a good player...for the Reds...Cliff Lee won us a lot of games for a couple of years...then we got shit in return when we had to trade him. Meanwhile Bartolo today...win, 8 innings, 1 run, 3 hits, 6 Ks. I think the sports Gods really do hate Cleveland.

BTW Jack Cust got released...suppose the FO has any interest in a crappy right-handed hitter with faux power because he strikes out 5 of every 6 ABs and he couldn't run 50 feed if you put a taco bar in front of him? SIGN HIM BABEEEEYYYYYYYYY.....

 seriously, is there a team that over the years has stockpiled other teams scrap more than the Indians?

who needs good FA when you can have a heap of never has beens for pennies on the dollar!

Twitter talk is speculating that the FO has a deal in the works for an outfielder who can hit the ball and that we should see "something" in the next 24 hours. But I know that this is the tribe and it's probably some AAA prospect or someone that should've retired 3 years ago.

Please tell the front office that we have enough sore armed relief pitchers and for them to go out and find some decent starting pitchers.

Enjoy your season tickets. Sort of feel sorry for you.

Thanks! No reason to feel sorry for me; I just really enjoy baseball and prefer to see it in person. Even when the Tribe sucks, which sadly is most years, many times the other team is decent. The vast majority of games there will be at least a couple plays that make it worth going there.

Yep, I don't really think there is much better than being at the ballpark.

I wish I was a ballplayer every time I go to a game (at any level). Go Tribe!

"The post-game show is brought to you by...Christ, I can't find it. To hell with it. "

Well, I have pretty much zero optimism going into this season. Of course, I had probably less last year, and they came out with their hair on fire. God, that was fun. I'd say chances of that happening two years in a row are about 1.3%, though.

I hope Ubald-O doesn't end up being the absolute disaster he's looking like. If he is, I may never forgive Antonetti...especially if Pomeranz ends up being as good as we thought he would.

I hope Santana can improve on a pretty bad BA, and stop looking at so many 3rd strikes.

I hope we can all be Kipnisses.

I hope Chisenhall uses the time in C-bus to work towards being a legit ML 3B.

I hope the BP pitches as well as they did the first 3-4 months of last year, or, at least, aren't the disaster they were the previous 3 years.

I hope Choo gets back to his '08-'10 form.

I hope they DFA LaPorta soon.

As with every year, I hope Pronk shows back up...but it doesn't appear likely outside of a few good stretches.

I hope Grady's head doesn't fall off colliding with the CF wall...if he ever actually gets on the field without pulling a hammy walking up the dugout steps.

I hope Brantley can salvage the C.C. trade...somehow, someway.

That's a lot of hope, but I'm not realistically expecting much. :ohwell:
