Cleveland Indians (2019 Thread of Indifference)

I know there are things about Tito that can be immensely frustrating, but he's about to wring 95 wins out of a roster that has been without 2 of their best starters for most of the year, had Clev miss about 2 months, then the assorted injuries to the bats. When you step back and look at it, it's really pretty remarkable. Can't think of anybody I'd rather have in the dugout.
I don’t like the way he does bullpens sometimes, but he’s clearly not the problem, except perhaps when he sticks with players who suck, even when it is costing games (of course April games don’t count #howbaseballworks). But Tito is not the problem, ownership is the problem, and that isn’t going to change.

You can count me as one of the people who would like to see a younger more aggressive manager. Not necessarily some guy who is all analytical but just someone with a little spark in them. Tito is getting baseball old and the one thing that really bothers me about him is that I think he plays favorites almost to the detriment of the team. Another aspect of him staying is that we will probably lose Alomar and Sarbaugh by the time Francona's contract expires.

Interesting stat on ESPN broadcast. Cleveland outfielders have ranked #23 in MLB in OPS this season. Every single team ranked below them is below .500, and the Giants with 75 wins are clearly the best of the rest. Getting nothing for losing an All-Star and letting Brantley leave in FA, and not signing anybody else to help replace him, was not a smart business move. And with the wild card race coming down to the wire, that one decision might have cost this team a playoff berth.

Another ESPN stat: at the moment the Tribe this season has 67 wins vs current sub-.500 teams, most in the MLB, and just 25 wins against teams above .500, which is 4th-fewest in baseball. Playing in the AL Central no doubt lends itself to that kind of divergence but it is still amazing how they could have the 4th-fewest wins against teams that are above .500.

Meh, E$PiN stole that stat from BP. We detailed that here weeks ago. Lazy bums can’t find something new to talk about except Arod spinning his own greatness.
