Uh...wall of text, ergo theyre still shittyYes and no....
They were 8-14 on May 1st. Mets were 16-8 and the Nationals were 10-14.
On June 1st, Washington was 28-22 (18-8), the Mess were starting to fall apart at this point and were 29-23 (7-15), while the Indians were 24-26 (16-12 for the month of May)....
I guess the point is you can have a [Mark May]ty April if your team is talented like Washington or Baltimore and a few others are right now.
As it was, they went 16-12 in May, which isn't a bad record at all, the problem is they followed May with a 12-15 June and are all but out of everything but the 2nd Wild Card with teams like Baltimore, Toronto, Tampa, Texas, Houston and Minnesota (all with better pitching staffs) ahead of Cleveland right now. The real problem is the Indians are almost exactly on their Pythagorean stat for wins and losses - they've played like a .471 team (their winning pct is .469), so I wouldn't expect great improvement since the stats show they haven't greatly underachieved (like say Toronto has or Oakland has).....
