Cleveland Indians 2015 Thread of Barely Restrained Contempt (BALLS)

Coming into this weekend's series the Tribe and Bucs are 12-12 against each other, all time. Both teams have scored 105 runs.

I like Cleveland's chances to take this series because I don't trust Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke any further than I could throw them. :ohno:

IF YOU'RE GOING TO FLY THE FLAG. Listen, I've been around the block enough now to know the jig. Baseball teams in Ohio are less popular than Ohio's "amateur" football team. In an order to dovetail on some of that interest, baseball teams create wacky Ohio State tie-ins.

This is usually manifested in the ceremonial first pitch. The Lake County Captains — Cleveland's Single-A squad — took it a step further. They donned Ohio State jerseys, and then they proceeded to get their asses kicked.

Captains drop one to Lansing, 11-3.

That's desecration, and I won't stand for it. If you're going to fly Ohio State's colors then handle your business accordingly. Don't rob banks. Don't get drubbed by a Single-A team from Lansing. These are basic principles.

I assume Ohio State's lawyers will be working through the weekend to sue the Captains out of existence.

Indians finish the first half at 38-43 (.469)

In the second half, they need to go 43-38 (.531) just to hit the .500 mark.

They need to go 52-29 (.642) to hit 90 wins (the probable amount necessary for playoff spot). Essentially, this team needs to morph into the 1995 squad to have any chance at making the playoffs. Not gonna happen.

Kansas City is on pace for 94 wins. The Indians need to go 56-25 (.691) to hit 94 wins.

Good thing that their shitty April doesn't mean anything right now.

EDIT: On a side note, I'm out doing errands yesterday. It's just after 3 o'clock and I turn the game on the radio. The Indians are leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth. The first pitch that I hear: a single by Neil Walker to tie the game. The next pitch: Andrew McCutchen blasts a two-run double (the eventual game winner) to make the score 5-3. I turn off the radio after one minute of entertainment. I'm done with this team.

And they'll keep Aviles (admittedly he has extenuating circumstances), they'll keep Murphy, they'll keep all 500 lefthanders in the bullpen...they will do nothing to improve this team.

I would get rid of Santana before I would get rid of either one of the two guys mentioned above. I cannot think of one thing that Santana does positively for a supposedly switch-hitting power first basemen. I can hardly wait for Swisher to return to the lineup:beer:

Ya'all just SO negative. This team is showing such positivity. For example, they had no (charged) errors last night! Could you have said that about many games in April?

And the new kiddy playground has a big slide. Plus don't forget that new District ticket includes a beer. And the Indians had a player named to the American League All Star team..........

Good thing that their [Mark May]ty April doesn't mean anything right now.

Yes and no....

They were 8-14 on May 1st. Mets were 16-8 and the Nationals were 10-14.

On June 1st, Washington was 28-22 (18-8), the Mess were starting to fall apart at this point and were 29-23 (7-15), while the Indians were 24-26 (16-12 for the month of May)....

I guess the point is you can have a shitty April if your team is talented like Washington or Baltimore and a few others are right now.

As it was, they went 16-12 in May, which isn't a bad record at all, the problem is they followed May with a 12-15 June and are all but out of everything but the 2nd Wild Card with teams like Baltimore, Toronto, Tampa, Texas, Houston and Minnesota (all with better pitching staffs) ahead of Cleveland right now. The real problem is the Indians are almost exactly on their Pythagorean stat for wins and losses - they've played like a .471 team (their winning pct is .469), so I wouldn't expect great improvement since the stats show they haven't greatly underachieved (like say Toronto has or Oakland has).....
