IndiansCLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians claimed switch-hitting first baseman Mike McDade on waivers from Toronto. They put the 6-1, 250-pound McDade on the 40-man roster by designating lefty Chris Seddon for assignment.
McDade, 23, played at Class AA New Hampshire and Class AAA Las Vegas last season. He hit a combined .285 (128-for-449) with 19 doubles, one triple, 17 homers and 67 RBI in 118 games.
He spent a month with Las Vegas, hitting .338 (27-for-71) with three doubles, two homers and 18 RBI in 18 games. The Pacific Coast League has always treated hitters well.
Overall, McDade hit .298 (97-for-326) against right-handers.
More TribeNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Fox Sports Ohio is close to purchasing SportsTime Ohio for between $200 million and $250 million, said a source familiar with the negotiations. The sale could be completed by the end of December and would increase the Indians' rights fees for broadcasting their games from $30 million to an estimated $40 million a year.
It's not known if the sale will help improve the state of the struggling Indians by giving the front office more money to pursue big-ticket free agents or trade for high-priced talent this winter. The Indians and STO are owned by Larry Dolan and his family.
The Cleveland Indians are reportedly “prime suitors” for veteran outfielder Shane Victorino.
In dire need of adding talent at a position of need, the Indians, per ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, have emerged as the likely landing spot for the long-time Philadelphia Phillies outfielder. Chris Antonetti has long been a fan of Victorino with interest dating back to last season. He’s joined by the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankess in terms of interested parties.
Crasnick reports via Twitter that newly hired manager Terry Francona personally called Victorino earlier this offseason.
The 31-year-old outfielder is coming off of a disappointing 2012 season — in comparison to the 2009 and 2011 seasons wherein Victorino garnered MVP consideration — in which he hit .255/.321/.383 with 11 home runs, 55 runs batted in, 39 stolen bases and a career-worst OPS of .704.
Seeing that outfielders BJ Upton and Angel Pagan have signed long-term deals, it is believed that Victorino is seeking a contract in the 3-to-4-year range. It is believed that a deal, regardless of team, could get done before teams leave Nashville’s Winter Meetings.

that being said, for what it will cost to sign him, this had bad written all over it.
