Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

Another outstanding effort by the Tribe. Hafner has quit hitting HRs but is much improved against lefties and in getting the ball in play: witness two three-run doubles in the series. With Detroit idle, the Indians improve their lead in the division to 5 games.
Can't get too excited yet because most of the games that we have played have been against pretty bad teams except for the Angels and Athletics. It will be interesting to see where we stand after interleague play where we will play against some better quality teams. So far so good but I have said that many times since 1954.

Given how bad they were supposed to be, just enjoy it. :wink2:

Like I said last week, even if they do fall back to reality, .500 was were I figured the ceiling was this season...and I thought that was a stretch. We seem to be way ahead of schedule, and that can't be looked at as anything but a good thing.

the only good AL team cleveland hasn't played yet is Texas. KC would be leading the central if cleveland hadn't dominated them this year.

Actually the Indians have played the 8th hardest schedule so far this year based on the records of the teams they have played.

Err....don't think we've played the Yankees or Toronto yet...they will be big tests for the pitching staff.
In a way, I wish we had played the Yankees already this year the way they are playing and the way our guys have been pitching. Toronto not so sure about. The good thing is that even if the Yankees and Jays start coming around really don't play them very much this year. I did forget about the Rangers which is a naughty on my part:!

[censored] the little Red machine. Never did like them and never will.

Regarding the Indian schedule, I did not realize that with all of the rainouts that they have played four less games than anyone in baseball and if they still keep playing fairly well then has to catch up with them when they start having to make up all of those games. We might have to get a light rail from Columbus to Cleveland and back:)

i watch alot of reds games (i have votto and stubbs on multi-fantasy teams) and baseball in general so while we are talking about the reds....could their announcers on TV get any worse? thom brennenman is the biggest fucking homer in all of baseball...everytime i turn on the TV that douche is talking about how amazing the reds outfield is (he said they were the best in all of baseball in the beggining of the year), brandon phillips is far and beyond better then any 2nd baseman in the NL and some other bullshit that just pisses me off...if he talks about votto i cant say much because most of its true...but its hillarious because when the reds went on their losing stretch not long ago the homer love fest for the reds was completely gone and thom was actually recognizing that there was actually other good players in baseball besides those on the reds...now im not saying that matt underwood and rick manning are fucking awesome and dont have their sides of homer shit for the indians now and then, but it is in now way near as bad as the fucking reds TV announcers...and by the way i think rick manning is pretty good and fair about how he broadcasts games...i like when he talks down to matt underwood too...anyways fuck the reds and fuck Cincinnati.... /end rant

Tribe are currently playing .667 ball.

To end up at 81-81, they'd have to play at a .477 clip for the next 123 games. Not likely.

Perhaps a more realistic alternative:
If on the other hand they fall on their face right this moment and play just .500 ball for the remaining schedule, they'll be sitting at 87.5 wins.

For the rest of the division to reach just 87 wins:
Team--- Needed(Current)
Detroit ------.537 (.537)
Kansas City-- .558 (.488)
Chicago ----- .580 (.419)
Minnehaha -- .607 (.325)

So maybe Detroit keeps up their pace, all the other teams would have to turn it on quite a bit. And that's if the Indians [theoretically] only win every other game for the next 4 months.

Obviously a lot can happen, but it's been a good run already and I'm happy for them to be sitting in the pole position this early on. :)
