Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

I agree about Buck, but I'd prefer they just jettison Kearns. He's been pretty much useless since last May and at least Duncan gives you some power of the bench or to spell Pronk at DH here-and-there.

His D has improved significantly, but he needs to be consistent in the batters box.

I can't see Laporta holding on to first base hitting under .250

They are not going to make any roster moves if they keep on playing like they have been. Laporta is doing just enough to keep his starting position. Getting one hit per game and playing some pretty good defense. Right now don't know if there is anyone on the roster who might do better than Laporta.

In addition, the Indians HAVE to find out what they have in him. Going back to AAA does nothing for him. He has to adjust at the Major league level. We will know alot more about him if they give him consistent playing time. As they will need to make a decision on him for next year.

Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind if come late July the Indians are in 1st place and can get a much needed bat that plays 1st base (if LaPorta is still not playing well)

I can see your point on giving LaPorta a chance before cutting him loose. He had a great college career at Florida hitting .402 with 20 home runs as a senior. First base is a position that you do need a stick.

Who you gonna play there if LaPorta is dumped? Jordan Brown? Duncan? Make Santana a full time 1B and play Marson full time? Don't see any of these as great options. Brown's not even on the 40 man roster. Duncan's glove should make us all very, very nervous. Marson played full time for about 1/2 the season last year and hit .195 with 3 HR, so that's probably not much of a net upgrade.

Maybe, by July, Johnson will be healed and ready? Before then, 1B is LaPorta's to lose.
