Anybody seen anything about whether Nick Johnson is close to playing soon? He might be able to fill the Haftner void.

Back in April Hoynsie said he was expected to be ready to play in Columbus in May.

I have no idea who's roster spot he would take plus I don't think they will bring him up just because of the salary.

Veteran first baseman Nick Johnson graduated from extended spring training and was in Class AA Akron's starting lineup on Friday night.
The Indians signed Johnson in spring training. He was coming off his fourth operation on his right wrist. This time a tendon was removed.

Soloff said Johnson was playing four days a week at DH and first base in extended spring. He expected him to do the same at Akron.

The terms of Johnson's minor league deal will pay him $750,000 if he makes the big league club. The Indians hold a $2.75 million option for 2012, but they must add him to the big league club by July 1 for that to go into effect.

Umm... they are cheap, I get that, but, 750K isn't much to pay if they think he can help. The 2.75 is just to activate the '12 option... it doesn't get him a dime if they don't exercise it.

From IPI:

Time to rev up the Columbus-Cleveland shuttle real soon...
There's not a bus big enough to fit all of the Players that they need from Columbus and maybe even Akron. Anyone can swing and miss at a baseball.

If nothing else, bring up Phelps and sit Cabrera and get rid of Kearns. I have no idea what to do at third base because I just don't think our phenom is ready defensively.
