Cleveland Guardians (2022 AL Central Champs)

Swept by the Tigers. Ugh. :smash:

Yep. Woof.

It's going to be a back and forth season. They'll probably at least stay somewhat close to the Twins but there's too much inconsistency to be a playoff team. Though the bunch of teams fighting for the wildcard sports are nothing special either.

They have to bounce back these rest of the games till the AS break. 3 @ KC 4 vs CWS 4 vs DET or they could get themselves into a deep hole.

After round 1... Indians pick 6'7 RHP Justin Campbell out of Okla State in the supplemental pick round..
This yr.. 101 innings... 141 strikeouts and only 25 walks...
would think they can make some adjustments to the delivery from this mountain that can do serious hazards at the plate

The 1st round pick OF Chase DeLauter seems to be a boom or bust type prospect. Scouts seem to say he has similar problems with his swing that kept Bradley Zimmer from ever living to his potential. Hopefully they can get that fixed.

They also picked up the CWS MVP Dylan DeLucia in round 6. He's not the monster size wise as Campbell. But he did rack up 105K/26BB in 95 IP. Looks like a solid high floor guy who at minimum might end up a pretty good Middle Reliever.

So, again, they have their best season in recent memory. They FINALLY win a championship of any kind and make.the CFB playoff. The program has a rich history, so you would think they could sell the "_ichigan is back, come join us!" angle and start finally recruiting at the level everyone expected when Simple Jim came on. But, NOPE. They can't be bothered to embrace NIL, which is now ENORMOUS in recruiting. Their HC who finally, in year 7, delivered the type of season they felt would be the standard...but then he goes off the grid for a month desperately trying to find an NFL job. Their Broyles Award winning OC boots for a lateral move and trashes the program on the way out the door. So, here they are, going into the second half of July with the 35th ranked class (directly behind such luminaries as Arizona, Pitt, Iowa St, Minny, Purdue and TCU) and are trying to convince themselves taking two consecutive unknown international recruits is a positive thing.

I'm so confused right now.

Still hanging around in the division race with five games left before the trade deadline. It'll be interesting to see which direction they go.

Looks like they will be staying completely put

I'd rather this than them trade some good prospects for someone like Sean Murphy (who they were being linked to)
