Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I agree with the points on here about Thompson being very limited offensively, but I also think he could possibly explode in a Jimmy Butler fashion. He's known to work extremely hard, and I saw some glimpses in game 6 of the finals. And, he's only 24.

Exactly. I would not be surprised to see Thompson continue to improve and develop a consistent shot. He won't become the floor spreader on offense that Love is, but he could very well close the offensive gap enough to more than offset the gap between the two on the defensive side.

Heard this about the sign and trade rules. Basically the only sign and trade we can do is signing Kevin Love and trading him away. We CANNOT receive a player that is not already under contract. ie we can Sign and Trade Kevin Love to Sacremento for Boogie Cousins, but we cannot sign and trade Kevin Love for Lamarcus Aldridge. Well, we can... but would have to renounce Tristan, Shump and every other FA on our team.

So to sum up, if the player is a free agent now... we can't trade for him. BUT, if he is already under contract, we can sign and trade our own player to get him and/or trade Haywood for him.

Kevin Love for Demarcus Cousins....heck, it's more than anything else Sactown could get and it would get Love to Northern Cali which I'm sure he'd like.
And it would get Cousins to Cleveland, which he wouldn't like.

Besides, I'm not sure a guy like Cousins clogging the lane and bitching in the locker room would mesh particularly well with LeBald and Kyrie. For all the grief I gave Love for much of last season, and it was a lot, I came to recognize he contributes in ways that don't show up on the stat sheet. No, he's not much of a defender, but his offensive skill-set, even when not on, spaces the floor and gives LeBald and Kyrie lanes to operate in.

Yes, they got to the Finals, and even pushed the Warriors a little without him, but I remain convinced the path there would have been just as easy, and they would have knocked off the Warriors in 5 with Love/Kyrie. Bottom line, keep Love around, build around those three, and prosper.

There are rumors floating around of a sign and trade with Love...will certainly be an interesting couple of weeks.

All those rumors are from writers looking at the prism of how well Tristan played in the playoffs and wondering if the Cavs can afford to pay max deals for two PFs. And wondering outloud if the Cavs would be better off trading Love.

That's it... no concrete info. So of course the people that want Love will float 'NBA executive' says Love will be sign and traded to try to make it happen. Kinda like how Cousin's agent is throwing around all those trade rumors.

This is all expected... we all knew Love would opt out, he would be a sucker if he didn't cuz he can sign a one year deal for $3 million more with the Cavs right now.

tristan thompson is going to go out and get the biggest deal he can, and it won't be a max deal, and the cavs will match it. then in 3 years as the cap balloons, he will be paid a decent rate, even if it means the cavs have to take a hit on the luxury tax for one year. irving and thompson will have value contracts once the new tv deal takes hold.

Just when I think I understand the S&T rules, I find out I don't. On Lamarcus Aldridge, do you know if it's possible for Portland & Cleve to do a mutual sign & trade? I'm guessing no.

If that's so, an S&T to the Lakers for their pick this year and future picks? Love gets to LA and the Cavs get a high pick to get Russell? I say BS on this because I just don't see it happening. Wouldn't be the first time the Cavs did business with the Lakers though.

I've been dreaming of such a scenario, but as Exhawg pointed out, LA probably thinks they have too much of a shot at Love in free agency to make that trade. That being said, if Love really wants to stay in Cleveland and doesn't want to play with Kobe and whatever mess the Lakers hodgepodge together, maybe it is possible?

My other question is whether LA would give up the #2 for Love even if they didn't have a shot at him. I guess that's possible if they don't really love Russell, Okafor, and so on. As much as I like Russell, I'd love to see Cleveland get Okafor.

Im thinking Love will resign for a one year max deal, Cavs should be the favorites for the title after bringing everyone back.
If we win the championship, im assuming Love will leave and sign a long term deal out West. He would be a free agent again, and we would get nothing in return. But hey Cleveland will have a Ring.

I think the only reason Love comes back this year is that the Cavs will be the best team in the league.
