It will be interesting to see what kind of offers JR gets. The only reason he is in a position to opt out is because he played well for the Cavs the second half of the season. His time in NY, and the boneheaded plays he made during the playoffs will probably make his market thin. Teams would have to wonder which JR they would be signing. If I were the Cavs I don't think I would offer more than he was going to make on his deal per year. I wouldn't give him more than 2 years guaranteed either unless he's willing to take 5 mil per for 3 years and another year team option. I just can't see anyone throwing a ton of money at him.
As far as the Cavs total salary hit I wouldn't be surprised to see the salary+tax total around 200 mil if they bring everyone back and trade Haywood. I don't see any way they don't at least double up the cap when all is said and done. It will be interesting to see if they can even move the Haywood contract since it would have to be for a player that is only worth getting the contract off the books. For that kind of money they would need a combo guard that can fill the role of starting caliber PG if needed. Losing Love hurt, but losing Kyrie and not having a real PG in the Finals is what sunk the Cavs. Delly is all effort and grit, but he isn't an NBA PG. They really need him to be the 4th or 5th guard off the bench next year where all he has to worry about is defense and spot up 3's. If Kyrie misses time I don't mind him being the backup PG, but they need someone else capable of starting.
The next few weeks should be interesting.
