Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

It will be interesting to see what kind of offers JR gets. The only reason he is in a position to opt out is because he played well for the Cavs the second half of the season. His time in NY, and the boneheaded plays he made during the playoffs will probably make his market thin. Teams would have to wonder which JR they would be signing. If I were the Cavs I don't think I would offer more than he was going to make on his deal per year. I wouldn't give him more than 2 years guaranteed either unless he's willing to take 5 mil per for 3 years and another year team option. I just can't see anyone throwing a ton of money at him.

As far as the Cavs total salary hit I wouldn't be surprised to see the salary+tax total around 200 mil if they bring everyone back and trade Haywood. I don't see any way they don't at least double up the cap when all is said and done. It will be interesting to see if they can even move the Haywood contract since it would have to be for a player that is only worth getting the contract off the books. For that kind of money they would need a combo guard that can fill the role of starting caliber PG if needed. Losing Love hurt, but losing Kyrie and not having a real PG in the Finals is what sunk the Cavs. Delly is all effort and grit, but he isn't an NBA PG. They really need him to be the 4th or 5th guard off the bench next year where all he has to worry about is defense and spot up 3's. If Kyrie misses time I don't mind him being the backup PG, but they need someone else capable of starting.

The next few weeks should be interesting.

to play with LeBron again... I predict he goes for it
other than choking in that last Cavs series, Mo & LBJ really seemed to be buds.. and Mo played well

but we really need some young talent too.. that doesn't get tired.. like TT
who is old, except for Lebron, that is of any use on the team but I agree that those guys need to go and some younger talent needs to be brought in but do not know how they will do that

16 guys on the roster.. and mid point is 30.. 8 under.. 8 older

This is why I wouldn't mind the Cavs bringing in a guy like Mo Williams and/or trading Haywood for a guy that only has a year or two left on his contract. I just wouldn't want them to trade a bunch of picks along with Haywood for another guy on the wrong side of 30 when they should be using the picks to build depth for a couple years down the road when they are going to need more young fresh legs. Building depth through the draft is something the Cavs have never been able to do, which has cost them dearly as long as I can remember.

Mozzy turns 29 in a month so he might have 4-5 years left on him assuming they resign him next summer. If he loses a step after a couple years I don't know if a starting front court of TT and Love will be able to cut it unless TT adds some mass and becomes a better rim protector. They need guys like Joe Harris to pan out and turn into good NBA role players within 2-3 years of being drafted. The goal should be to add 1 young NBA quality role player in the draft every year with PG and C being the first 2 targets.

Looks like a couple of decent options on the market. I really like Corey Joseph of the Spurs, he is restricted, but they have parker and mills.
Not a big fan of Mo Williams, he's too old and his defense probably wont be good. Cavs will be lucky to keep JR.
Probably? It was bad when he was here 5-7 years younger. However, they could do worse in the "crusty veteran chasing a ring at the end of his career" market. He can still score, and probably could have a role as a player that can provide some offense off the bench in a pinch. Plus they could resurrect the Godfather theme when he hits a three, which was always awesome.

I would bank on kyrie never being 100% in the playoffs, which is why I would rather reach for a player that is <30 instead of a vet at the minimum, especially for the backup PG spot. It seems Lebron is already on the downside of his peak, which is why I would like to have a decent backup for him...not another 36 year old player like shawn marion or james jones.

Either way, I just want to see Kyrie and LeBron get rest during the regular season.

Sounds like execs are still shaking the Kevin Love tree to see what comes loose. If I had to guess, their phone numbers probably have Boston and LA area codes.

Let me get this straight... LeBron would supposedly put his foot down over the idea of getting rid of Thompson because they share an agent, but would be OK with getting rid of a genuine All-Star and getting nothing but picks and rotation players in return.

Sure, the Cavs got to the finals by LeBron putting what was left of the team on his back. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want the rest of his career to be spent that way and would like to play with some other good players.
