I think ESPN is generally garbage, but this is the article Bucklion mentioned: http://espn.go.com/blog/marc-stein/post/_/id/3896/lebrons-handling-of-blatt-unbecoming
I think Blatt winds up staying, but I wouldn't be surprised either way. He outcoached Thibodeau and Budenholzer in the playoffs. He nearly outcoached Steve Kerr in a MacGyver-esque way. He earned his keep, and LeBron's respect.
There's still a lot of buzz that he will eventually resign, but they are working on his buyout. We'll see what happens, but I'm not 100% convinced he is staying yetIf Blatt resigned like the rumor mill started right before the press conference last night, then this article would be relevant.
BUT, Blatt kinda said he was cool with it. And really, that is what matters. If LeBron is "embarrassing" Blatt but Blatt is not embarrassed, is it really embarrassing??? As long as it doesn't affect the team and chemistry of that team, this is a non-issue to me.
In fairness to Smith, he was elevated to secondary scoring option following the injuries to Love and Irving. Yes, he struggled in the Finals, but up to that point he was playing quite well. Hell, he basically won Game 1 of the ECF for the Cavs. I'm guessing he'll make around the same amount as before but get a few extra dollars and years.
I totally agree. That's why it's key that they inherited his Bird Rights when they acquired him from the Knicks. He can opt out and they can still go over the cap to sign him.I'm not cap expert, but I don't think the Cavs are in a position to let a guy like him walk. It's not like they can go out and sign a FA to replace him - they're not going to get an equivalent player at the veteran minimum.
Imagine if somebody actually got paid to make that.
