Not sure what moves are left for the Cavs to make at this point. It certainly looks like we'll be rolling back the same team (more or less) that made three consecutive Finals, just a year older than they are now. I understand the reasoning behind that, but let's not pretend this team has any chance to dethrone Golden State (barring injury) as its currently constructed.

There was no realistic combination of moves that could've made the Cavs equal to or better than Golden State. When Golden State added Durant, it was pretty much "game over" for the rest of the NBA. The Warriors now have four of the top 20 players in the NBA and no other team will be able to match that in the foreseeable future.

The best proposed move, and the one that came closest to fruition, would've seen the Cavs lose Love and Shumpert and gain Paul George and Kenneth Faried. That trade would've made the Cavs a better team, and a better match up for Golden State, but still a decided underdog in a Finals rematch.

To equal Golden State, the Cavs needed to keep their Big Three and add a fourth superstar (Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Chris Paul) and there was simply no way to accomplish that. The only way to get the Cavs close to a Big Four would be to obtain Carmelo Anthony from the Knicks in some kind of crazy trade (Shumpert, Frye, Jefferson, and Felder would technically work, if the Knicks were looking to enter tank mode).

I'd say blow it up after this year if they hadn't already traded away the picks for the next 3 drafts. If/when LeBron leaves I'd trade Kyrie and Love for future picks and hope they can get something like Nets/Celtics. Nothing before 2021. Rebuild for after the Warriors and hopefully draft better than last time. Gilbert needs to find a good drafting GM and stick with him.

For this year I'd do whatever it takes without giving up more future picks. One year window.

Blowing it up is always a possibility, but keep this in mind:

The Wolves, 6ers, Bucks, Nuggets, and Jazz are sexy examples of what happens when you start from scratch. They're all legitimate playoff contenders with fun young guys. The Kings, Hawks, and Magic are the flip side. And then there are teams like the Suns, Knicks, and Pelicans, who have exciting young guys but no immediate path to contention.
