Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Separating myself from the emotional detachment about Andy... and understanding we won't have or maybe not need a #1 pick for the next few years...
I wonder which Channing Frye we're getting.. the Frye of years ago would be great.. but the Frye of the last couple years.. worries me
we saved some money.. we may have gotten slightly better... but biggest advantage I see.. there's an extra seat at the bench so guys won't be so jammed up when they sit

Seems like it has more to do with the money side than anything else. Koufos already has a long term contract, Moz is coming up for renewal and will want paid. Spurs may want to offload his contract and then not renew on Moz and let him find a home elsewhere.
If it was straight Moz for Koufos... wouldn't it already be done? Who/what else do we lose?

I haven't posted here since before Blatt was fired, but I figured I'd come and give some thoughts on the current state of Cleveland basketball.

Like most of you, I didn't care for Blatt's firing. "Sources" said that the players didn't like Blatt's personality, and if that's true, he had to go. What I disagree with is promoting Lue. I would've thrown as much money as necessary at Tom Thibodeau.

As far as the Frye move, obviously I like it. They paid a very small price to get better. I like Andy, but his contract was truly awful. I think Frye moves the needle, though divvying up play time will become increasingly more difficult.

To me, it just feels like this team isn't good enough to win a title. I know you have to keep the LBJ-Kyie-Love core around for at least one postseason run (where all are healthy), but there is a certain atmosphere around teams that are capable of winning a title, and I don't see it here. Yes, this team is one awkward fall from Curry away from being in the driver's seat, but let's not pretend they'd have a chance at the title if they were in the Western Conference. They are probably the third best team in the league behind San Antonio and Golden State, but it feels like a distant third to me. Every time it looks like they've integrated Love into the offense, or are capable of moving the ball, they revert back to iso-ball and Love ends the night with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Can they win the title with Love playing a minimal part? Maybe, but it doesn't make sense to marginalize the third best player on the team. It's also hard to say how this team best matches up with Golden State. I think they have to look at last year's Finals matchup and try to replicate that. You're never going to beat Golden State playing their game, so you have to slow it down and grind out four wins. How do Love and Kyrie fit into that gameplan? I'm not sure because Golden State would run P&R at them every play.

IIRC they had a total of 2 practices between when Lue took over and the break so I don't think this is anywhere near a finished product. When they play like Lue wants they seem to be world beaters, but the do tend to revert to iso ball when the going gets tough. Hopefully they've been have to have a few practices over the break and will be in for a strong closing run. I do think the Cavs are capable of beating the Warriors, but everything will have to go perfectly for them to do it. Kyrie seemed to be rounding into form before the break so what they need now is for Lebron to find his shot and Love to be more consistent.

what they also need is delly to come back and provide a little backcourt defense as mo williams is really useless at this point. that plus any marginal rim protection improvement makes the cavs much better defensively, and allows them to run more, at least in theory.

From 16-23 feet, Wiggins is 86/221 for a shooting percentage of .389

From 3-point range, he is 31/127 for a shooting percentage of .244

His total from 16+ feet is 117/348 for a shooting percentage of .336

That is atrocious.

Wiggins is also not very good mid-range (4-16 feet), where he is 180/412 for a shooting percentage of .437

By way of comparison, notorious bricklayer Tristan Thompson is 87/180 from 4-16 feet for a shooting percentage of .483

Basically, Wiggins is a dunker and not much more - he is 95/117 "at the rim" for a shooting percentage of .812

You're talking about Wiggins as if he's a player in his prime and not a 20/21 year old in the middle of his 2nd season in the NBA, with very little veteran talent around him. I think you're trying to justify the trade that you were calling a no-brainer a year and half ago.

It was a bad trade, we can't reverse it, so hopefully we can still make a run at a championship in the next couple of years.

Please. Stop. You make the point for him.
