Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Giving up a 1st (and more) for a guy who will be a FA after the season doesn't make much sense to me for a team sitting at 11-23.. I think the Cavs would've been better off just releasing Bynum.

The first round pick is a gamble. If the Queens never crawl out of the cellar in the West the Bulls will never see a first round pick. I don't care about the second round picks, those can be bought. The ability to swap first round picks next year could hurt if the Cavs barely make the playoffs and the Bulls return to the top of the NBA if Rose can get healthy. That said a pick in the 15-20 range isn't a huge loss and if Rose never gets healthy the Bulls won't be in a position to swap picks.

It will be interesting to see how Deng fits in with the Cavs roster. He is at least a legit NBA 3, which they haven't had since Lebron left and gives them an option to resign if they can't convince another FA to come to Cleveland. At least Grant and Gilbert are following through on trying to make a move this year. If things don't get better before the deadline they still have time for a fire sale and tank for 2015.

Its better than trading away your first round pick from the previous year for a draft pick and then firing the coach for not winning games.

That's exactly it, if he works well there, and as such want to, and can resign him, its a steal... if not, we'll see what the draft pick is before its a bad deal

They were talking on radio this morning that the Larry Bird rule could work to our advantage because we;ll be allowed to offer him more money than anyone else will...so whether that is enough to get him to stay remains open, of course, but if the team shows signs of life with a good young nucleus he could see promise here.

Id like to know if you sign Deng, who just turned down a multi year deal for 30 million from the bulls, can you sign LeBron? Not that the Deng signing makes LeBron so pumped to come here now anyways

Yes...im just saying from a cap stand point...its actually a stupid question to begin with because it has no chance of happening...carry on

I believe their cap situation is quite flexible, signing Deng or not. Something like only 15 million in gauranteed for next year, so that leaves you what? 35 in space? I'm sure someone has the details. I think that doesn't count Varejao.

Supposedly Deng turned down 3/30 - we can never get anyone to Cleveland, Deng is only 28 (thought he was older) and is putting up 19 this year, I have no problem giving 3/35 and giving him the Cleveland anti-discount. Fills a huge, enormous hole for us.

Kyrie, Waiters, Deng, Thompson, Varejao - pretty solid starting 5, theoretically but probably not in practice but oh well. And Bennett and Zeller off the ben.....wait a second...

32 mill set - with Deng we likely won't pick up Clark's or Gee's. Varejao for 10 mill we won't pick up either but try to work something out.

Salary cap is likely around 62 mill leaving a nice 30 mill of space to play with.
