Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Based on schedules, I can't really see the Lakers passing anyone in the West except Utah. In the East, the Bucks are the only team that the Lakers have a chance at passing. That makes the second pick #16. Those two spots could make a big difference.

I'd be happy with Porter and Gobert.

Speights' contract runs out after next season.

the lakers could pass houston in theory, but utah is the much more obvious choice. the jazz's schedule over the next 2 weeks is pretty brutal.

I believe Speights has a player option after this season, he can choose to re-up for next year or go the RFA route.

i don't think he's restricted if he declines his player option. either way, some team that is likely not to be cleveland will overpay for his inefficient services.

You are correct. Hoops Hype, who are usually pretty good, didn't have that listed as a player option. TS is right, someone else will overpay for him.

Which is more often the case. Recently, the Cavs have been smart not to jump into the FA market and over pay for players who are either 1) Injury prone or 2) inefficient or inconsistent.

As far as FA sigining in the off-season, I think we agree that the Cavs may very well re-sign Livingston. But will the GM go against the his normal approach and try to sign Oden (oft injured BUT a better fit with the Cavs) or 2) Or Speights (insconsistent who some claim is not the best fit for the Cavs).

IMO, Oden would fit better at a fraction of the cost and he brings alot more upside if he is healthy. Cavs need help defensively and Oden would bring that plus he is a team player and a great character guy.

ts, I defer to you since you are more in the know about what is going on in Cleveland sports scene. But how bad is the relationship between Speights and the Scott? Also, what do you see the Cavs doing?

the bottom line is that the cavs aren't going to do anything to hamstring their cap flexibility this offseason. if greg oden, assuming he's healthy at all, takes a reasonable deal that allows a team to not get stuck should his legs crap out, the cavs will make a run at him.

i don't think there's any bad blood between speights and scott. but one thing is certain, scott doesn't have a high tolerance for stupidity on the court. that's why jj hickson was sent packing. speights takes bad shots, gives minimal effort on D, and makes a lot of boneheaded plays. there's a reason he's been traded twice already by teams that slowly cut his playing time the longer he stayed there. And what you're getting from him now is his performance while trying to get a big contract. speights is the ultimate buyer beware, which is why he likely won't be in cleveland next year.

Looking at his stats after 18 games, he has great stats for a bench player getting 21 minutes a game.

http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/stats/2012

those stats are fine for an inefficient bench player, that doesn't play defense, if that guy is being paid bench player money. i don't think there would be a lot of argument about bringing back speights for the right amount of money. but the guy is going to want to get paid, and what you're seeing from him now in a pseudo contract year, is probably the best you're going to get from him.

Yeah I agree, Speights is worth no more than MLE type money. His effort is extremely inconsistent.

Kyrie got banged up in the shoulder tonight in the loss to the Raptors. Great player when he can stay on the court. Not that we should be questioning Grant / Scott at this point, but shut him down now and get the tank rolling.

Dude needs to add some muscle this off season.

Hopefully they can get him deadlifting and what not.

A lot of these injuries seem like could be prevented with a stronger body in general and a core specifically.

I'd really like to meet the jackass coach who started the don't lift it will ruin your flexibility lie that is so prominent in hoops and baseball. I was taught that crap in middle school / high school for baseball and never realized how stupid that advice was until i went to OSU.

Like weakness is ever a good thing.

Like getting huge and becoming inflexible is something that happens on accident overnight.

Most stupid advice I was ever given probably.

Live and learn.
