Cleveland Browns (official thread of Masochism 2015)

Here's the bottom line...the clowns have NO business drafting QBs, and the 1st round drafting is still riddled with mistakes. Just since 2012, they've made HUGE mistakes drafting Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, and now Johnny Jizz Jar. Gilbert didn't show anything really to indicate he won't join that list, though there is still time. And I know they got a 1st round pick in exchange for Richardson, which seemed like a steal, but what did they do with it? Drafted Johnny fucking Manziel. I've seen very little that indicates this franchise is headed in the right direction. Yeah, they played harder this year than in the past, so maybe they finally have a HC worth a damn. But, until they can manage to find a QB (and I have basically zero confidence in their ability to do that), and put together a decent coaching staff, they aren't going anywhere...and I'm fairly convinced Hillbilly Jim's meddling in team matters is going to be a huge issue with getting things done that need to be.
The problem is, besides drafting one, who is out there? Ryan Mallet? I mean I agree, Johnny Punt Team is a catastrophe, Weeden was what he was, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum, but unless they find someone late first round-early third round that can play, this team will likely never have a good QB. Ever.

Hell if I know. I do know they should refrain from drafting one fergodsakes. Their track record for drafting them is impossibly, hilariously bad. Odds are they should have simply lucked into getting one semi-right by now, but nope. Not even close.

I see where you're coming from. There just aren't many sure fire QBs each year even in the first round. Andrew Luck was one but the rest are all gambles. Some pan out and some don't. The Browns just have such a bad history with first round QBs that I just think they should use those valuable picks to assemble the best team outside of the QB position as possible. Why risk the house each year on a crap shoot? Especially given our track record. Build a team, and then worry about finding your QB. Whenever we do get one, then he'll have a better go of it with a solid team around him. We would always be more enticing of an option for a solid FA QB as well if it ever came to it.

Once again, I'm no expert. This is just my opinion or philosophy on how I'd like to see them go about it. We never seem to be at the top of the draft when the sure fire guys come along. Gotta take a different approach. Everybody knows the Tom Brady example. He was a late pick. He came in to a good situation though. We don't have that situation yet. But we can start building it if we stop chasing overrated QBs to insert in to a team that is annually full of holes.

Disclaimer: Not saying we will find another Tom Brady.

I was thinking about next year's schedule - they're going to get the NFC and AFC West and the division is good again. Pettine might already be dead man walking unless they somehow come up with an all-timer of an offseason.

Haslam certainly doesn't seem like a patient man. But, I suspect just based on some on field progress this year, he gets at least 3 years. But if they regress next year, and chances are very good they will, I'm willing to bet 2016 is a "hot seat" year.

Regression next year is absolutely guaranteed. Arizona in the first 12 weeks, Seattle, Denver, SD, KC...those are all likely losses if we had played them this year. Of course none of those teams will be exactly the same next year either, but it's hard to see how the schedule could possibly set up better than it did this year, and next year will be some ass-reamings that we didn't get because we played the Souths, which had, what...6 teams with losing records? We'll get the Jets and Jags as last place teams...both of whom could also be better next year, and one of whom beat us this year. If they don't find a QB and tighten up their run defense significantly, it is 4-12 again.

So now I read where the NFL is investigating the reports of texts being sent to the sidelines from the press box...apparently in violation of their "electronic devices rule"

Next years schedule is a toss up for me. I remember hearing how this years schedule was murderers row.

We get Zona without Carson Palmer at home. The Niners at home with a new HC, new offensive philosophy and Kaep will still be their QB. Denver at home might suck but the donkeys Oline has regressed with Peyton - and Manning will most likely lose either of the Thomas to free agency.

Seattle at their place is going to suck. KC away might not be much better. If the pass rush improves, the Chargers are nothing special. Especially with the Oline injuries. St Louis is a toss up. Unless Mack is healthy it might be a nightmare. you'll be facing Quinn, Brockers, Donald and Long. Top to bottom the best Dline in the game.

Priority #1 is run defense. Since our toughest opponents pound the rock. Minimize that damage and who knows? Play competitive enough to give yourself a shot to win in the 4th qtr.
