Cleveland Browns (official thread of Masochism 2015)

I do not understand what the big deal is of suspending Ray Farmer for 3-4 games or even more. It is not like he is coaching or anything so how could he affect a game  I mean doesn't he do that on the day of the draft.

If he's not allowed to affect any gameday decisions, what is the purpose of suspending him for games? What a circus

According to this article Urban takes a great deal of Coach Pettine and the Browns organization when it comes to drafting. Do not quite understand that.

I think Urban knows how to play the game. Always been disappointed that the Browns aren't more active with the regional powerhouse right down the road. Why not go to Ohio State's Pro Days? I don't expect them to draft Troy Smith or anything that doesn't fit... but Savage' love and obsession with the terrible ACC was boggling.
The Steelers, Colts, and Packers have all taken a few Buckeyes over the years... 3 teams that consistently make the playoffs and all have recent Super Bowl rings as well.

to be fair, those teams have superbowl rings because all 3 have/had hall of fame qb's running the show for them. it certainly wasn't on the back of aj hawk, ryan pickett, ryan shazier, or cam heyward. i don't really think there is correlation there. the thoroughness of cleveland's scouting isn't necessarily the question. the processing of that information and subsequent selection of players remains to be seen. however, from round 2 and on last year, including UDFA's, they did pretty well, if you overlook that whole 1st round thing that is....

I was more going for the consistent playoffs, but Defense is still a vital part of the game (and where it seems to me Ohio State alum have been most successful in the NFL). Otherwise Manning would have more than 1 ring.
The Packers and Steelers in particular have done it with Defenses... including important contributions from the likes of AJ Hawk, Pickett, Heyward ... and I wouldn't understate the fact that Santonio Holmes was the Super Bowl MVP either.
