Cleveland Browns (official thread of Masochism 2015)

Yep, the best (and probably only) chance of taking another small step forward next season is beefing up the Dline, Oline and WR's through the draft - running the [Mark May] out of the ball, playing elite defense and basically not allowing McCown to fuck things up while we allow the QB we draft ( Mariota? Grayson? Petty? ) time to develop.

But who the fuck are we kidding. We'll blow our wad trading up for Mariota, McCown will suck - Jerrah errrr Jimmah will clamor for Mariota then he'll suck to. We've seen this before.
This is all designed, in my IMO, to get Johnny back on the field next year. I actually expect them not to draft a QB early. I imagine they will go to camp with shaw, johnny rehab, and Mcown, have a farse of a"competition" and then give it to johnny.

And if that is part of the tanking plan, to do it spectacularly with Johnny Football snorting the white paint after getting beat up, that is fine with me.

If we really wanted to tank properly, we would draft low risk, low impact players that are legit potential NFL starters. Not that we need a center, but a center would be a perfect fit in a tank draft. Tight End would be a good safe tank type of pick.

Not that I would go there. I would jump on that Beasley dude from Clemson. Maybe I am still in awe of what he did to us the year before, but that is an impact player. He will probably be gone by 12 though. Need receiver help more than anything anyway.

I would take Amari Cooper at 12, but he too is likely long gone by then. I am confident the Clowns will trade up for him and then put him on the Trent Richardson career path.

Don't like any other receiver in the first round honestly. Would snag DGB in round two if available and roll the dice. Just call him Josh Gordon II and roll them dice. Same thing with Devin Smith in 2 or 3 if available for the Browns. Homer here sure, but the Browns need a deep threat and Smith was the best deep threat in the state of Ohio last year outside what AJ Green?

As for QB, I would like to see the Browns target UCLA's QB Hundley in the second round / third round. Don't need a QB really in a tank season. Don't see a QB in this draft that will turn this into anything but a tank season. Still though Hundley has potential. Might roll them dice too.

Why, as a Brown's fan, that you look forward to the draft only to be disappointed by the total incompetence of the front office. This draft should be really very simple and straight forward. Get stronger and faster on defense, get a couple of wide receivers that can stay out of trouble and improve the offensive line. I'm not game for a QB in the 1st round unless Mariota is avaialbe at 12 but even then I wouldn't draft him (trade down if that's the case). Again the Browns need to improve in to many areas to take that chance.

Top 3 selections IMO should be if the chips fall right:
1(12). Danny Shelton, DT, Washington (Here is the DT that will make a difference)
1(19). Kevin White, WR, West Virginia (I like this guy better than Parker and Cooper)
2(11). BPA at position of need ILB (McKinney / MSU); G Kouandjio / ALA, DE Edwards /FSU or Bennett / OSU.

No way White's there at 19. With his combine, he's being talked about in the top-10, and even if he falls out of that, he won't last past the Niners.

I am hoping White falls that far but doubt he does. After the top three of White, Cooper and Parker, there are some question marks about the next tier with DGB and Strong. Matter of fact I would until the 3rd and pick up in order either Agholor (USC), Smith (OSU) or Greene (FSU).

Devin won't fall that far either.
He'll probably be there. In fact, I saw one mock that had the clowns grabbing him at 19, and that's the highest I've seen him projected. He might sneak up as there's always risers and fallers leading up to draft day, but as of right now, general consensus seems to have Devin going late-1st to second round.

*Edit-- just re-read and saw you responding to Devin being talked about in the 3rd round, so yeah, doubt he would be there.

I went back and looked at most of the new mocks and how they played out and yes you are correct NF, Devin is late 1st and 2nd round so more than likely he will not be in the 3rd. However, there are some decent WRs in the mid to late rounds that are worth the picks instead of the Browns taking chances on players who have character issues or are "high potential" that is never reached.

Seriously, fellas? The weather is shitty, I'm sore as hell. Just... give me this. A slight belief, even if it is a lie that the team might be ok.

That's what the off-season is for, giving us false hope, not actual team building success.
