Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

Yeah. He's not going to be back any time soon. But hey, now you can pup list him next year and probably release him in 26 without too bad of an accelerated cap hit.
Cap hit is bad because of the structure of the contract until basically 27

Winston is a known commodity who has reached his ceiling. DTR still has a larger period needed of sample play before his ability and future is properly judged.

The more I see of DTR I'm less hopeful for his future as an NFL QB.

Side note somehow the Browns have insurance on Watson's contract so that could add a portion of what he has left on his contract to the salary cap next year. Not sure if that extends to future money if the injury becomes career-ending. If I were Watson I'd disappear so I'd never have to deal with the league or the fans again.

I mean you have to pay him. My point was only that now you have a pathway to pay him in the years it was due rather than 172 million or whatever for him not to show up next week

Ok that makes sense ... I thought you were advocating cutting him before 2026.... it's extremely cap prohibitive to cut him.... really at all until 2027 unless you just wanna bite the cap bullet and have 50% of your cap taken up for a year or so

What I was really hoping was that we could get Russell Wilson for next year and use him while the Broncos were paying him for taking his cap hit

I think they'll just do that post June 1, 2026 release and take the '27 money then too... I mean, I can't see how they actually would want him back unless his throwing shoulder magically went back to how it was before last season. I mean, he's not retiring.

I don't follow the clowns along too closely, but help me out...I'm gathering that they've basically been thrown back to the ground floor of yet ANOTHER rebuild? What's that looking like at this point? I guess they finally have their 1st round picks back after throwing 3 of those away on a QB who has done absolutely nothing for them, and in fact pretty much cratered the franchise with his poor play and inability to stay healthy. So, what I see moving forward:

QB - Stuck with Watson if/when he comes back from his latest injury for another year or two and they have no one behind him. Crab legs is a rental and DTR looks nothing like an NFL QB. I'd guess they look for a QB with what looks like a certain top-5 pick in 2025?
RB - Chubb is done after this year, and there's really nothing behind him.
WR/TE - Njoku has shown ability, but he's just a guy unless a QB can actually get him the ball. They traded Cooper, and I don't see much behind him.
OL - I don't know the personnel, but it sounds like the OL is pretty horrific this year, so I'm guessing they need a lot of work here, too.
DL - Garrett is wasting a great career with this shit franchise. Don't know what they have beyond him.
LB - I gather the LBs suck.
DB - Don't know much about what they have here. Is Ward a player at this point? Don't hear much about him.

So, after being teased with actual progress in 2020 (Playoff win over the Stillers!), then some regression, then another playoff berth last year with Uncle Joe, it sounds like they've tumbled back down the mountain and are essentially starting over yet again. I'm assuming Stefanski is gone after this season, if not before. Yikes. I don't know how Clowns fans do it. There is just no reward for rooting for this franchise.

Just to add with rumors I've seen today...Njoku is on the trading block as well, and there is one LB with a pulse (JOK) and they would also move him for the right price. So yeah, they went all in (too late really) with Watson, and now that it clearly didn't work...they're left with their best offensive player (Chubb) being pretty much able to leave, a couple of guys on defense they would shop if they can, and Garrett...who clearly hates the fans after listening to him yesterday and doesn't really want to be here. Other than that...
